Never losing contact with old friends is the gold of life.

Today's Tids Issue 3,647
For friends:

Several years ago a friend of mine and I were sitting enjoying drink at a bar on Block Island, which I have often described as pure paradise. Eventually we found ourselves talking to a couple of day trippers, a young man and woman who had come to the island for the first time. We asked how they liked it. The man said it would be perfect if it had an amusement park. In unison, my friend and I replied, “It is perfect because it doesn’t have an amusement park!”. How much more does that apply today where people look to be entertained all of the time, even now while walking looking for weird little virtual creatures? There are so many perct little places that remain untouched by developers, promoters and merchandisers. Places where basic nature is the prize, and our imaginations are  the play stations. Are we losing the ability to find the spectacular pleasure from tranquil simplicity? Too often I hear, “There’s nothing to do there,” when just being there is is the ultimate thrill.

I see where Nanny Bloomberg has endorsed Hillary. That’s just one more great reason not to vote for the neo-socialist. She is now indebted to Bloombergisms.

Hey, what are they trying to do to grapefruit juice lovers? I truly love that bitter juice that each morning scrapes away the mouth grime of the night. Yet it seems that each time I go to the grocery one more brand of the juice has been removed. Maybe it’s a Bloomberg plot.

The Question:
Marni Nixon died last night. She was a remarkable performer and in fact was the singing voice behind many a superstar’s premier musical achievements. Name four whose voice was really Marni’s. Bonus: What country produces ¾’s of all garlic?

The Headlines:

People march against the 1% Wall Streeters and then spend the evening at a sports arena of any kind and get thoroughly gouged on prices of food and souvenirs to pay for super high salaries mainly used as a measuring stick.

The “Bump” polls are coming out and as expected Trump pulled ahead of Hillary 48-45 in the CNN/ORC Post convention Poll. In the four way race including Johnson and Stein trump leads Hillary 44-39. Also , Trump’s favorability rating is up from 39 to 46% among registered voters. He upped all of his numbers including one that rose to 52% which are those who now believe he is running for the country and not himself. Among Independents, Trump leads Hill 51 to 39. The good news is that he actually got a bump in the face of la the media negativity. The bad news is that it doesn’t mean anything until the Hill stops cackling at the end of this week.

I could do the work of any CEO for about 10 % of their salary, easy.

People who regularly attend sports events tend to walk like a duck, since they continually splay their feet to allow people to pass in the aisle. This is especially true at race tracks where people are in and out continually to bet.

I always press the “Shortest way” on my GPS because that’s where you discover new and beautiful out of the way places.

I had te opportunity to talk to a dedicated fairly liberal democrat over the weekend. It appears the accepted defense of Hillary is that many presidents through the years were dishonest. So basically they are saying that dishonesty is ok as long as you are only President. Are there any more ways democrats could lower the bar in America?

The Answer:
I think that many knew that Marni, a classically trained singer, was the voice of Maria (Natalie Wood – Whose massive ego had trouble with it.) in West Side Story. Natalie Wood though received all of the credit for the record sales of the score. Marni also sang for Deborah Kerr in “The King and I” and was absolutely wonderful as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady. She sang for Marilyn Monroe in Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend. She should have sang for Merrill Streep in Mama Mia. She died of breast, cancer which first struck her in 1985, and returned again in 2001. Bonus: China produces 75% of all garlic.

I called them - the mighty three,
My friends who enlightened me.
To throw a ball, climb a tree;
Or learn letters from A to Z.
And play each day, parents free.
We met again, and we all agree,
We haven’t changed since ’43!
