I see it. You see it.

Today's Tids Issue 4,975

We are us:

A human tendency is to see the same thing differently for their own benefit. And that has become more predominant than ever.

Lost in the vivid pics from yesterday and the suspect statement from the Taliban leadership about amnesty for all is the real fact that the Taliban are very close to China, Russia and Iran.

Life is all about perspective. The sinking of the Titanic was a miracle to the lobsters in the ship's kitchen.

I would have done well in today’s labor markets. Most employers say, “No resume required. Just show up and smile. Shallowness acceptable”.

The Question:

300,000 voters chimed in to give us a list of the “Best Singers of All Time”. I guarantee there will be lots of quibbles over this list. Favorite singers are like favorite Pizza – personal.

The Headlines:

--Mixed Earnings Reports From Retail Giants A Has Stocks Opening Lower; Home Depot Misses As Post Pandemic Home Improvement Rush Slows; Q2 For Walmart Surges.

--CDC Expected To Say That Americans Should Receive Booster Shot 8 Months After Vaccination #2.

--Flights Resume From Kabul Airport; Anxious Crowd Thinning; Taliban Announces Amnesty, Urges Women To Join Government.

--George, Laura Bush Issue Statement Of Deep Sadness For Afghans Following Taliban Takeover.

--Colorado River Water Shortages Declared For The First time; Low Lake Mead Levels Meas Mandatory Water Usage Cuts Will Affect 7 States and Mexico.

Have you ever noticed on Food Network shows that most chefs smile knowingly when the challenge is to add Cheetos to a pristine recipe? They know, they know it will taste good.

I entered what I ate today into my new fitness app and it just sent an ambulance to my house.

Somehow the left in several states and big cities will demand that everybody show proof of their vaccination, but maintain that it is too difficult for some groups to show proof of citizenship for voting,

The way people viewed Biden’s speech will be a classic example of people watching the same thing seeing something entirely different.

You know, people can deal with diverse opinions, and accept honest mistakes. It’s the outright hypocrisy that drives them bonkers.

English is weird. It can be understood through tough thorough thought, though.

The meteorologists talked about tropical storm Fred for about a week or more and it was no more than a 45 mph wind.

Weather people on TV seem to have this inclination to attempt making viewers feel miserable by planting into their minds horrendous podetial weather. But horrendous isn’t what a weather person predicts on an average night. It’s people in California running for their lives from out-of-control fires. People in countries devastated by earthquakes and volcanos. So why can’t they just say something like, “the Heat is going to be a little bothersome today. You’ll survive.”

People still like to get out and shop in real stores with clothes and goods they can touch. I expect that some of the Covid online traffic that lifted eShopping will slow a bit.

When you think about it, what kind of a country will we have going forward when so many of today’s jobs are being filled by warm bodies with “No experience necessary”? With signing bonuses!

Some of the White House talking point stop-gap spokespeople yesterday looked downright silly it their explanations. It was like Susan Rice on Benghazi all over again.

Forbes has rated 2021 luxury SUV’s. #1 is Genesis GV80. Next is BMW X7 followed by Mercedes-Benz GLS, Infinity QX 80, Land Rover Range Rover, Cadillac Escalade, Lexus LS, Lincoln Navigator, Audi Q7, GMC Yukon. The top Three in price are LR $92K, Lexus $84K, and MB, Caddy and Lincoln at $75K. The best buys are highest rated Genesis at $48K followed by GMC $50K and Audi 55K.

Today lots of columns and news programs will be devoted to the Afghan mess. There will be spinners, deniers and critics. But it is a mess and the US missed something along the way for sure. But what we do know is that the USA soldiers, navy, marines and air people were still brave. And unfortunately, too many died or were seriously wounded for life. And we will never forget them no matter where the political ramblings go. That’s it on that from the Tids.

The Answer:

Number one on this list is Freddy Mercury. Yikes, who knew? He is followed by Michael Jackson, Whitey Houston, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Luciano Pavarotti, Megan Marie Hart, Adele and #10 – Celine Dion. Ok, lets go up to the top 25. At #11 we have Elton John followed by Stevie Wonder, Maria Carey, Ella Fitzgerald, Prince, Joan Sutherland, John Lenon, David Bowie, George Michael, Marvin Gaye, Paul McCartney, Nat King Cole, Enrico Caruso, Leontyne Price and at #25 – Dolly Parton. Stevie Nicks is at 30, Johnny Cash at 34, Barbra Streisand 39, Billy Joel 40, Judy Garland 44, Diana Ross 54 and Bing Crosby who dominated singers in the 40’s, 50’s and even sixties was #58. 95 through 100 are Rod Stewart, Margaret Price, Dusty Springfield, Axl Rose, Juie Andrews and Renata Scotto.

People have a lot of opinions on lots of things and many of them are quite valid as their own. The fact that thousands voted for Freddie Mercury as the Best doesn’t change the fact that I believe that Stevie Nicks is good, or Johnny Cash or Streisand, or that Julie Andrews was one of the best ever over time.

Being individuals is about as important as anything in life gets. We should never let public opinion take that away from us. Become a contrarian and enjoy rich, creamy, chicken gravy without fear of retribution. Amen.
