Today's Tids Issue 4,964

When the wars end:

Hello August. May you keep the cool of July going. I know, it has always been hard for August to be cool considering that it has been labeled as the Dog Days of Summer. But how cool is it to celebrate one of our greatest Holidays that’s now kept secret – VJ Day! That lofty day where I remember running around the block with all my neighbors, just good people with enormous smiles on all our faces. All feeling the same pride and relief regardless of identity characteristics. We won! And garages were full of vegetables from victory gardens. And parents didn’t worry about sons and daughters going off to war. It was a great time, so I guess if that’s what I’m thinking about August -- making this eighth month of each year very cool indeed.

There is no truth to the rumor that the company Poland Sprigs will be liquidated.

Do you find yourself at times walking through life wondering which technology device of yours will fail next?

And you fervently hope is that it isn’t the Artificial Intelligence guided Uber you happen to be in at the moment.

One of my favorite flavor combinations is lemon and chicken broth.

The Question:

After Everest, K-2 is the highest mountain in the world, In which country does it dominate the skyline? Bonus: How old was French Nobleman Marquis de Lafayette when he was made Major General in the American Continental Army?

The Headlines:

--Stocks Open Stronger On First Trading Day Of August On Consistent Positive Earnings Reports.

--Weekend Shooting Report:

--Simone Biles To Compete In Balance Beam Competition.

--US Airstrikes Pound Taliban; Taliban Launches Ricket Assaults O Kandahar and Herat, Two Of The Largest Cities In Afghan.

--US House Leaves For Summer Vacay; Senate Scrambling To Pass Infrastructure Bill.

--New Iran Prez, Ebrahim Raisi, Protégé Of Khamenei, Takes Charge; Outgoing Prez Hassan Rouhani Says “Government Not Always Truthful”.; Says “I Did Not Always Find It (Truth) Useful…”

If you think about it, VJ Day was the first ever victim of the misguided Cancel Culture mentality. We just didn’t realize what they were doing to us at the time. Remember Pearl Harbor!

BTW,[RH1]  so far 59% of all companies have reported earnings and 88% have beaten wall street earnings estimates. That’s what’s hold the markets together. The only sour note which so far isn’t dramatically contributing to a downside mentality, is less than positive forward guidance from key large commonages like Apple, Facebook and Amazon – 3 companies that benefitted mightily from Covid stay at home activities and shopping.

Q: “Where do bad rainbows go?

A: Prism. It’s a light sentence.

Shoot me! (I used to think that was a little Tids humorous gimmick, but now there are just too many people waiting around just looking for excuses to do just that.)

6.4 million households ‘oer the USA are behind in their rent. Congress has already sent the states $46 Billion dollars to assist renters and landlords alike. As of last Friday, just $3 Billon has been distributed by the states. The pathos of people being thrown out onto the streets is the latest clarion call to hysterical lawmaking I congress. But the solution is already in the pockets of State’s plications. A little serious oversight is probably all we need.

Often overlooked in the repertoire of Tchai’s symphony’s is his Number one. It’s called “Winter Reveries”. The softness of that title belies the well-known intensity always found in Tchai’s work. But for all of is thunderous musical exclamations, that man Peter Ilyich wrote some of the most beautiful melodies ever flowing through hearts of romantic souls.

Some of today’s “fun” activities look more like work to me. Yesterday I watched a woman on her knees on a paddleboard paddling across the harbor.

Stock markets will piddle along, probably with more days higher than lower, and then in the first or second week of September we’ll find our what’s really going on.

Uber and Lyft were happily looking for a big bounce back with gust as people came out of their caves and started hailing again. But, a driver shortage is putting a blockage into that revenue artery.

But slow service can be good, as several Friends and I found out Saturday night. 6 of us went to our favorite restaurant and I could see potential slow service early by the way the waitress with too many tables methodically took orders and managed her load. And never bag came flustered. Patient s customers helped a lot too. It turned out we were there for over three hours. The good news saw that the food was excellent as usual and we had great time talking well into the evening in a no rush atmosphere, just as if we were in one of our living rooms. And, btw, the pleasant, confident demeanor of the waitress helped a lot.

The Answer:

Everest is 29,032 Feet. K-2 is 28,241 feet and is It lies in the Karakoram range, in part in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan-administered Kashmir and in part in a China-administered territory of the Kashmir region included in the Taxkorgan Tajik. Most people consider it in Pakistan. Bonus: Marquis de Lafayette was a mere babe at 19 when named Major General by Philly’s Continental Congress. His full name was Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette. he was born into great wealth. Being a Mason, doors opened quickly for him in America. But he was not seeking comfort, jumping w quickly into the fray. He was wounded in the Battle of Brandywine, Led the American soldiers through the horrendous winter at Valley Forge. He was a hero in the Battle of Rhode Island. (Not much of battle). Washington and Lafayette had dinner in Philadelphia shortly after the Marquis arrival and they bonded immediately. And both being Masons didn’t hurt either. But it was always his brilliance and noticeable enthusiasm that all of his associates remembered most. He isa National Hero in two countries

There is something that bothers me about the headline: “Senate Scrambles to Pass Infrastructure Bill”. The idea of a scrambled legislation costing $1.2 trillion just makes me a little queasy.

In case you awakened this morning wanting to reach out and touch, Saturn, you missed a golden opportunity to catch a ring. It was at its closest to the earth at 1AM. But it will still be shining at its brightest until August 4. Might be a good night tonight to take a midnight stroll, hand in hand with your best gal or guy and enjoy the quiet awe together.

See yooz all tomorrow.
