I know.

Today's Tids Issue 5,010

Yay Columbus:

One of the complex questions of life may be: Is it better knowing or not knowing. Is it better to live on hope without knowledge or have the knowledge and just hope.. I don’t know the answer. Sometimes knowing is tough, and sometimes not knowing is the most painful. But most of the time knowing gives you a chance to do something about it. One thing I don’t know, is how to get out of this Tidlet gracefully.

Uh-oh, it’s already happening. the Anti Columbus loonies are issuing sanctimonious press releases again. Aaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!

People who answer questions like yesterday’s Q about the first talking movie, always add the addendum, “But I wasn’t born then!?”

Is “Add the addendum” redundant?

A truly Vibrant city has a lot more than just a tourism economy.

The Question:

What was the most lop-sided score ever in a college football game? Bonus:  Who was the first black singer at the NYC Metropolitan Opera?

The Headlines:

--Markets Expected to Open Significantly Higher; Debt Ceiling Progress Brings Smiles To Investors.

--Super Investor Cathie Wood Dumps $270 MilI in Tesla Stocks; Says There Are Cheaper EV Buys.

There is an old expression of hope, “Never say Never”. In the event “never” does come along, you always hope it comes with an asterisk!

The news story covering the big championship boxing match was about a bout.

It was mediocre day in the Tids Picking Place Tuesday morning. We were a mere 8-8, and now stand 39-25. Nail through heart time! But, it is an interesting NFL this year where the visiting team has won 33 of the 64 games, over 50%. This week looks no easier. We are in a real “On any give Sunday” year! That means they are all posers. I’ll just start picking. After last week’s surprise, tonight I have to see the Rams waking up to take Seattle. Got to pick the hapless Vikes over the Hapless Lions. And the hapless Falcons over the hapless Jets. I will also pick the mystery Saints over the mystery Washinton whatevers. I like My beloveds (The Pats) to take Houston, except for one thing – right now we don’t have an O-Line. Small problem. Bill will work it out. Miami is an iffy team, but Tampa is still one of the strongest. Power beats iffy.

Continuing on with the picks, a real tough pick is Green Bay against Cincinnati. Finally, the Bengals have earned the right to be respected the Pack is clicking. Ill go for the surprise and Cincy. Pitt doesn’t seem to have it this year, but Denver does. I’ll go Broncs. I’ll stick with Carolina. The Iggles are almost there but not close enough yet. Could be a real good game. The Titans really blew it last week but I have to go with them now against lowly Jax, even as super rookie QB Lawrence is beginning to live up to touted rep. The Chargers are one of those mystery teams too. How good are they? Will they surprise a very good Cleveland team? I think not. Another nailbiter. I like LV over da Bears, and Dallas over the Giants. Earlier San Fran agist Arizona was a real puzzler and center stage event. But with Jimmy G going down and Arizona playing lights out, I have to pick the Cardinals. On Monday night, we got a super game with mighty Buffalo at Mighty KC. KC has looked a bit wobbly and the Bills have look unstoppable. That is a recipe for a KC upset, but I’ll stick with Josh Allen and the Bills. Happy punting everybody!

There was a Minnesota wild fire that consumed 300,000 acres and killed 40. It was in 1910. I don’t remember hearing that progressive Teddy Roosevelt was running on a Climate Change platform back then.

When you think about it, Kenny Stabler was probably the most exciting QB of all time, consistently bringing back in heroic fashion his Oakland Raider at end of games. That is, if you think a lot about Kenny Stabler.

Right now, the stock market has become a day-to-day affair. Put your money on the companies that make Tums, Rolaids and Pepto-Bismol.

The growing schism in my town is between the locals and the “Lights out” neighbors, which is the fastest growing segment. It won’t be long before the people who live here all year long will be out-voiced by those who live here for 3-4 months; who can muster large crowds at town meetings. We don’t need hotels; we need office and business parks.

The Answer:

Georgia Tech coached by the iconic Joh Heisman beat Cumberland College 220 to 0 in 1912. Bonus: the great Marion Anderson joined the NY Met in 1954.

Knowledge is everything. Knowing is too.
