Rising above mediocrity.

Today's Tids Issue 5,217

Getting beyond bruised egos:

A perfectionist walked into a bar...apparently, the bar wasn’t set high enough.

This out of the US Government Accountability Office: “A shortage of spare engines may leave some F-35s grounded because it’s taking longer than planned to repair a key component for the US’s costliest warplane”. “Inadequate maintenance depot capacity leading to a shortage of operating” engines has “grounded F-35s more often and for longer time periods than expected.” It seems to me that we are too worried about too many things that have no bearing on getting the intended job done. Much of the issue stems from the Pentagon’s failure to develop an adequate strategy for sustaining the engine, including providing sufficient depot repair capability as production continues. So far we have only delivered 820 of a potential 3,000 super planes. And China and Russia are testing hypersonic undetectable long-range missiles.

This is easily the worst week for sports fans. Unless you think the All-Star game is a sport.

The Question:

What are considered the best Sports Championship Trophies?

The Headlines:

--Market Appears to be Heading Towards Limbo-Land Again Today; Opening Slightly Better Than Futures; Netflix Investors Happy The Company Only Lost One Million Subscribers; Corporate CEO’s Hedging Bets.

--Trump Supported Super Conservative Dan Cox Wins Maryland Repub Primary; Democrat Governors Association Spent $1.2 Million On Ads Boosting Cox.

--AG Garland Says No Indictment Of Trump Before November Elections.

--Putin Expected To Annex Defeated Regions Of Eastern Ukraine. Any Attacks By Ukraine Into Those Areas Using US Weapons Would Be Considered Act Of War Against Moscow.

--Covid Cases Rising Faster Again; States Not Overreacting.

--Heat Continues To Boil Most of US and EU.

Chase Eliot is a having monster year in NASCAR... long with a lot of first time ever winners. A lot of the usual suspects a like Truex. Hamlin, Logano, Larson and the Busch’s, are showing up nicely but it is the newbies who are surprising each week when the checkered flag starts waving..

The polls are saying taht Climate Change is a non-issue with respect to USA voting in November.

A lot of political headlines are going to emerge in July. But I don’t believe any of them, even if they favor my side. It is just about planting headlines in the minds of a friendly supportive journalist, and suddenly a less than factual item is firmly planted in the mind s of short-attention-span Americans.

The big question is: Are corporate execs talking about a general slowdown in hiring because they didn’t meet over inflated objectives for 2022 or because there really is a recession at hand. A perfect example of that is Meta saying it may reduce hiring. This is a company whose staff today is 28% higher thana year ago. The hiring was based on projections (Maybe form egos) and revenue didn’t materialize that would justify such a staff increase. But they did show decent increases. So, the bad news maybe just from CEO’s looking for a place to hide after not getting it right a year ago. Reality versus perception all over again.

One of my big pet peeves is employees in service industries not understanding that customer are the most important part of their day.

The headline shouted that Trump supported Dan Cox won the Maryland Repub primary over Repub Gov Hogans choice Kelly Schultz. But the catch is that Dem Governors see Dan Cox as unelectable and spent $1.2 mil supporting the Trump candidate to run against their person. The Trump candidate Cox is still running on the so-called “rigged” election. Nobody cares. Oh wait, I mean nobody should care. That was yesterday.

You know you may be having your last date when your partner thinks the “B” in BLT stands for bread. Hey, where’d this bacon come from!

Little league is a very good thing because it keeps the parents off the streets. --Yogi Berra.

How smart are Sri Lankans? Well, I may have some doubts as I see they put in as President a very unpopular who is quite likely to keep the turmoil ongoing.

Before you complain about getting a pizza with no toppings, make sure you didn't open the box upside down.

The Answer:

Number on is The Stanley Cup (Hockey) I agree, it is pretty darn special. The rest in order are FIFA World Cup trophy, Olympic Gold Medal, Lombardi Trophy (Not one of my Favorites), UEFA Champions League Trophy, Augusta National Green Jacket, Premier League Trophy, MLB WS Trophy, Indy 500 Borg-Warner Trophy, and at #10 just presented two days ago -- The Claret Jug. Frankly, I would put that as number two, and drop the MLB trophy which is overdone to me. I might have thought Wimbledon would be higher than 12. The America’s Cup, another great looking trophy for sailing is #15. I guess I like old trophies than some of the newer whiz-bang looking creations.

Why does everybody sing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” when they’re already there?

Life is full of little mysteries.
