Topsy Turvy.

Today's Tids Issue 5,216

Axis Ascending:

The banks came in this week with really good earnings and positive words about the US consumer strength. Then they turned around and as a singular minded group warned, we’re knuckling down to face the worst ahead. Yes, they are not reinvesting money in growth, and certainly not hiring, but using extra cash to protect against defaults and loan losses from both business and consumer sides. Corporations will begin to pare down too, but will consumers resist adding debt.

Life is one big compromise. You invariably are giving up something to get something whether you are worth billions or pennies. For instance, the lens of my eyeglasses kept falling out. So I put a drop or two of Gorilla glue in the rims to hold it. It works great except now I can’t see through the lens from glue smears. Which says, I should have spent another $2.93 on another pair of glasses. But there are always favorite things in life you can’t part with. Especially if oyu are a sentimental old fool. But cheap eyeglasses?

How about the Putin meeting with Iran’s Ayatollah and Turkey's Erdogan, Erdogan is certainly a rascal of major proportions and unpredictable as to loyalties. But we know Iran is firmly in the Hate America camp with the Russians. And while I think China is safely sitting the on the economic fence with regards to Anti US views, they are also happy that they can join Russia at any given moment. Tis a conundrum, especially with today's modern weaponry.

Joe Manchin for President.

The Question:

I don’t know how I arrived at this question today, but I did, and now you have to answer it.:What are Edward Norton’s greatest films?

The Headlines:

--Market Futures Point Higher; Yet Percentage Of Companies Reporting Better Revenue and Earnings Down Form Previous Years; Corporations And Banks Seem To Be Battening Down After Good Q2 Performances;

--Putin Meeting With Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan In Iran.

--UK Temps Set all Time Record Highs

-Despite All Headline Grabbing Issues, Financial Security And Safety From Violence Still Top Two Voter Issues.

--China Warns Of Forceful Measures If Nancy Visits Taiwan.

--Juan Soto Beats Julio Rodriquez In MLB All Star Home Run Derby; Earth Still Rotating On Axis.

--House To Pass Bill That Would Protect Same Sex Weddings.

A new study says that alcohol maybe detrimental to people under 40. Duh! You think? Lots of people could have told you that with for a lot less money than the Government grant that funded that sturdy.

Here’s another observation that says we don’t need studies to tell us something -- Global travel makes diseases far less regional. Double duh! Have you noticed that none of our serious medical urgencies arise in the US. Will all those people who somehow hate Columbus be equally distasteful of immigrants and casual travelers who bring a disease here. I don’t think so!

A reader wonders:Do they laugh out loud in Hawaii, or is it a low ha?”

Netflix has been suffering a loss of their lifegiving blood – subscribers. Is Netflix another of those companies that boomed intensely in homes during Covid? Today will tell investors a lot. Netflix looks like a cost heavy company to me with nothing on the horizon but more and more competitors.

The prices of Weddings have been inflated for a long, long time. Thats why people still have them as planned. They are noticeably more expensive than they always were.

But I hear lots of wedding guests are getting tired of the costs of attending destination weddings.

I see a cover of a magazine Like People with a headline that says something like “I was on top of the world, and I ruined everything”. And they I look to see who was on top of the world and I have never heard of her. I guess I live ina different world. BTW, while on the subject to of celebs, the flurry of headlines about Lopez and Afleck getting married will have no effect on my life.

The Answer:

Number One is American History X, followed by Birdman, Primal Fear, Fight Club, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The People vs. Larry Flynt, Moonrise Kingdom. The Kingdom of Heaven, Motherless Brooklyn and The Score at Number ten. The next five are The Rounder's, Frida, The Illusionist, The Incredible Hulk and Italian Job. The Rotten Tomatoes Ratings has his top three as Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Birdman. RT’s top ten also includes People Vs LF, American History X and Fight Club. It adds to their top 10 Isle of Digs, Sausage Party, Everyone Says I Love You and 25th Hour. So, tier you have it on Ed Norton. If anybody cares.

There is only one Ed Norton to me, the funniest sidekick of all time who made me smite every time he walked on stage -- Jackie Gleason's Ed Norton played by the marvelous Art Carney. None better.
