Which climate.

Today's Tids Issue 5,286

I'm not addicted:

There is nothing like

The emotion of a new day.

Always bright and sunny

Even with skies of gray.

Where the dreams of the night

Promise adventures coming our way.

That every dawning is fresh and clean

Like the first note of a symphony

Promising wondrous somethings.

That’s what each new day brings.

Every day is ours for the taking.

Today is National Day of the Deployed. This is definitely a day where we should all stop for a moment and give thought to all those overseas and a

way from home solely for the benefit of all of us.

That is, except for Tom Brady.

There are only two industries that classify their customers as “Users” -- drug dealers and Internet sites. Addiction is just a click away.

Lots of people state as their main concern about Climate Change is the impact it will have on their children and grandchildren. Personally, I believe that the climate that must be changed for the benefit of our children and rational society in general is the one of growing toxicity in national conversations. It is probably the biggest threat to the future of a civilization.

The Question:

I found a list of Ten Top Companies That Changed the World. What do you think they are. There will be arguments here.

The Headlines:

--H Alphabet, Microsoft Earnings Disappoint; Dow Rises Strongly At Opener; Tech Heavy Nasdaq Doesn’t.

--5.1 Earthquake Hist San Jose, rattles San Fran.

--Iranian Security Opens Fore on Mourners at Service for Mahsa Amini.

--New UK PM is Richer than King Charles; Charles Oversees $42 Billion Which Is His to Use but Not to Sell.

A man with no enemies a has simply outlived all the bastards.

Economists studying the economic effects of Covid say the most wasteful expenditure was bailing out the airlines, costing One Million Dollars for each job saved (Note: Airlines could have gone to Wall Street to finance themselves; you know, like what capitalism is!). The best use of funding was by far in the fast-track concept called “Operation Warp Speed.” Some unbiased economists are calling one of the best Gov spending efforts of all time. In the early days of Covid the economy was losing $40 Billion per week. The OWS mini expenditure of $18 Billion dramatically reduced the vaccine development time from years to months and saved trillions in the economy in addition to the most important thing—lives

With all due respect to those who like them, one of the more annoying things to me, especially when trying to enjoy a relaxing moment is somebody revving up a motorcycle.

The state governments around the country raced to establish many irrational rules to govern the people's actions during the Pandemic. One of the odd ones in RI, where else, involved passing a law that would close all aisles in big box stores with products that were not deemed essential items. One area closed off in HD and Walmart was the garden centers outside – the safest place to be during the disease days.

In case you are interested, the new season for “Succession” has become a reality with a firm opening date of Spring 2023.

I have often written that if you are getting an App for free, the app is getting you in return. People have asked big social media companies what exactly is their product that allows them to be the most profitable businesses in history. Of course, the answer is “us”. They make their money off of deep all-encompassing knowledge about us for which advertisers pay millions to better target customers... us.

Here is an interesting progression on how media has changed over time to the current dominance of social networking. Originally there were print newspapers and magazines which mainly delivered facts. Then came along broadcast which added feeling the information. With the Internet, we saw the added option of alternative facts which began the confusion. And now with AI and big data, we get the fantasies. We’ve gone from medium delivers the message to medium shapes the message to medium is the message to medium programs the message. And it’s got you and me.

Speaking of lunatic knowledge... a brand-new poll says that 72% of USA men could fight a grizzly bear unarmed and win.

I saw a liquor delivery commercial during lunch and realized it would be really expensive to be an alcoholic now.

The Answer:

Number Ten is Netflix and then we have Facebook, Google, You Tube, Apple, Amazon, Ford, Microsoft, Tata Group and Tesla. Tesla Hasn’t changed the world yet. A How about IBM DuPont AT&T, General Electric, Standard Oil, and Frito-Lay. The internet has convinced listers there was nothing before Microsoft. You Tube changed the world?

As I get older and I remember all the people I’ve lost along the way, I think to myself, maybe a career as a tour guide wasn’t for me.
