Writing to nowhere.

Today's Tids Issue 5,288

Back to basics:

Today is National Chocolate Day! Need I say more.

The Children are Loose, Department:

It’s about those nuts defacing paintings and thinking they will get support for their climate cause. Sure they will, from other simplistic minds.

The tech sector took its lumps this week. Every Fang company disappointed, and there is a feeling that the fair wizards of technical magic will be in the recesses of investors' minds for a period. But, maybe not Apple, which may be the ship that sails through the storm. I think Microsoft will too. But nearly sunk maybe Facebook Meta. Yes, there may be ample rational to stay with Fang or is it Mange without the “M”.

Facebook is investing billions into the MetaVerse with the hope that it will not only be the salvation of the company but global society at large. That’s a big objective. But the problem is that Facebook, the original operation that contributes all of this cash, has lost its Oomph. People are just not joining that society anymore, relatively speaking.

The nice thing about being senile is that you can hide your own Easter eggs. I thought it was Halloween.

The Question:

What are Julia Roberts Five Top Movies?

The Headlines:

--The Markets Are Up Through Morning To Noon; Investors Liking the Prospects and Leadership of Apple.

--Nancy Pelosi Husband Paul, 82, Viciously Attacked with Hammer in Their Own Home.

--Biden says Tere si No Reason to Use Nukes in Ukraine.

--NK Fores More Missiles to the Sea.

--Musk Completes $44 Billion Takeover of Twitter; Declares the “Bird is Free” as He Fires All Twitter Execs

The chocolatiest dessert ever, Department:

Pre-Heat oven to 350. Place 8 oz chopped semisweet chocolate in a large bowl. In a 10-inch cast iron skillet melt1 cup of butter and stir in 1 cup of milk stout beer. Bring to boil, reduce heat, simmer for 10 minutes stirring occasionally. Pour over chocolate and whisk until smooth. Cool slightly. In another bowl beat one large egg and two large egg yokes together and blend in 3/4 cup of sugar and 1/4 cup of brown sugar. Stir in chocolate mixture. In yet another bowl mix together ¾ cup all-purpose flour and 1/3 cup baking cocoa and ½ tsp salt. Add to enhanced chocolate mixture, mixing well. Pour it all back into the skillet and bake 25-30 minutes. Let it cool in skillet. Serve with vanilla ice cream and perhaps a drizzle or two of caramel.

Don’t you think chocolate is better than politics.

You have to love the way Musk strode into Twitter HQ yesterday, naming himself Chief Twit and firing all the existing brass. He basically said his objective with all of this is to move social media to a point where the poison of today's rhetoric dissipates. Noble Idea. And of course, he wants to make money along the way.

The areas where I have noticed the most implausible price increases are in fast food and sandwich shop operations. While I realize the sophisticated audience of Tidsville has not experienced such crass eating establishments, the Tids editor as a purveyor of truth in all levels of society is forced to indulge in gravy laden dishes and incredible sinful treats. It’s part of the job. Remember the push to raise minimum wages has dramatically increased base labor costs and taken its toll on smaller labor heavy businesses like fast food. If you can find somebody willing to work.

I hope politics wasn’t the motive behind the horrible attack on Paul Pelosi. If so, then the destruction of a civilized society could be just around the corner. Until Musk can get Twitter honest again.

Do you think that Tom Brady is having second thoughts about reneging on retirement. Now he is losing off the field and on the field. Last night his inept offense lost for the third game in a row. Anit was just announced that his divorcee was finalized. He says amicably. That probably means he didn’t lose too much money.

The problem with the cancellation of student debt is not about the cost of the program, but about unfairness to all those responsible students and their parents who scrimped and saved to pay it off themselves. Taking on debt still means paying it back. And that also goes to corporations who run to the government for bailouts.

The Answer:

The critics probably don’t like Julia’s new film with Clooney because it is too happy and not socially driven, But it is entertaining as were many of her films. Number ten was Eat, Pray, Love. Then going up the ladder we have Mystic Pizza, Charlies Wilson’s War, August: Osage County, Notting Hill, Ben is V Back, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Erin Brockovich, and at #1, Pretty Woman. Personally, I liked Pelican Brief, and Sleeping with the Enemy. Oddly, Sleeping didn’t get a mention in any other top movie lists up to 25. Maybe I am misremembering it.

Did you know that Iceland is one sea away from Ireland.

Have a great weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
