It doesn’t stop the day after.

Today's Tids Issue 5,365

Smother not:

How much is lost by words unsaid?

What exactly are we shooting down out there -- Auto showroom sales balloons or nuke delivery systems. Does anybody really know?

I will always stop to watch an Omaha Steak commercial.

With day-to-day pronouncements of Glee or defeat, there is one underlying constant in the economy – the creeping, rising costs for manufacturers of everything from catsup to EV’s which will be reflected in lower profits in the months to come. Unless lots of people are laid off to improve the economic pictures for companies. Either way, this will be an assault on theeconomy

You know you are texting too much when you say LOL in real life instead of just laughing

The Question:

Who was the first American woman to win an Olympic Gold Medal for Figure Skating? Bonus: Who are Terry Kath, Robert Lamm, Danny Seraphine, Walter Parazaider, Lee Loughnane, and James Pankow?

The Headlines:

--Stocks Fall After Giv Reports String Retail Sales Data; Nas Manages to Creep into Positive Territory; Retail One Month Sales Increase of 3% is Highest Since March 2021; Investors Fear Higher Interest Rates to Slow Economy.

--Death Toll in Turkey/Syria Earthquake Rises ot over 41K.

--China Warns US of Retaliation for Balloon Shoot-Dwon.

The retail sales increase says that there must be a lot of old free Covid money still under mattresses or credit cards are increasingly overloaded.

I’ll gain confidence in Artificial Intelligence when it begins to understand puns.

Collateral Damage, Department:

Some people may think that office affairs around the water cooler have slowed since Zooming took over. But never doubt the power of love. The NYT’s reports a new survey showing an uptick in affairs now more emotional than physical. Apparently, people working together still become fond of each other whether digitally or hanging around desks. It is a fact of working life. And many employers are with it unless it involves power positioning, proves to be embarrassing ot the company or interrupts efficiency at work.

Socialists will tell you that the stock market ups and downs isn’t the economy. It is in a system without bailouts.

Sorry Abe, I missed your Birthday. I guess the SuperBowl is bigger than greatness these days. I always looked forward to February and the birthdays of Washington and Lincoln. It felt special to me, honoring two bigger than life, great Americans. Now everybody wants a piece of the celebratory actions and sometimes essential building blocks of this great natin get lost in the cultural shuffle.

Any time you see a headline about Bernie and Liz Warren joining together in the Senate, hold on to your wallet and hope for the rebirth of original Federalism.

If you see a smart phone wearing glasses it probably means it has lost its contacts.

Many years ago, a smart person said to me, don’t filter everything through your brain, just express what it is you feel in your gut. It worlds quite well. As long as you understand, are aware that other people have feelings too.

Starting this Friday around here restaurants will be trying to tempt eaters and out do all the others with the most amazing creative burgers ever served. Now topping or filling is barred. To me, the most amazing burger is good meat, good cheese and a good bun.

Many of you have been waiting for Apple’s Folding iPhone. It maybe just around the corner. Personally, I'm not waiting for a folding phone, but I'll be happy if their stock goes up

Non-Alcohol beers are in the midst of a boomlet. It appears that many of th ecraft beer companies led by Athletic Brewing are interested in creating their own sober versions of creative suds. Old Clausthauler which has been one of the good old imports since they first came on the market, still ranks high on all best-of NA ListsRecent upstart Heineken 00 (They always had a good NA) is all over the place lately and it is very good. I have had a Sam Adams which isn't bad and recently a couple of I-forget-the-name Craft NA’s. So, I rate a decent restaurant on whether they are diligent enough to go out with a degree of exigency and find something special for their non-alcohol customers. And they are doing a much better job than in the past when they just took a case of mediocre whatever from the big Bud or Miller Distributor, BTW, your belly still feels the bloat, but not your brain.

I saw a driver texting and driving. It made me so mad I threw my beer at him.

A reader writes to say that he often finds himself loaded with packages in the arm that just happens to be closest to the picket with the car keys.

The Answer:

Tenley Albright, who went on to become a successful, highly respected Surgeon, was the first ever USA Figure Skating Gold Medal winner. Tenley had polio as a child and her skating, whie painful helped her get her legs back. Bonus: vocalist Terry Kath, keyboardist and vocalist Rpbert Lamm, drummer Danny Seraphine, saxophonist Walter Parazaider, trumpeter Lee Loughnane, trombonist James Pankow were the original founders of the great band Chicago. A few months after founding in1963 the group added bassist and vocalist Peter Cetera.

I listened toa lot of really good Chicago tunes, several more improvisional than the great hit below. But, Make me Smile just felt like the mood I was in. Maybe you’ll all smile along with me:
