It isn’t news; it's just youth.

Today;s Tids Issue 5,389

Maybe:

I always wanted to be a Gregorian Monk … but I never got the chants.

Two days to go. I made it through a doctor's appointment an hour ago so now on Thursday I can eat everything bad for me and not worry or feel guilty. Bring on that gravy and chocolate pie. How great is that timing!

Spell check hates colloquialisms.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Just practicing.

The Question:

What are considered Stephen King’s five gratest books?

The Headlines:

I can’t imagine ever being tempted to spend my time listening to a person with the title, “Influencer”. Influencer!... How inane.

Young journalists are reporting as discoveries information that has been wot us for decades, centuries. Lately they seem fastinated by the idea and report as news that companies reduce benefits and employee numbers after mandated pay increases. Does anybody in this country understand economics. That private real-world economies don’t work like socialist governments.

I feel sorry for Trump not being smart enough to grasp how childish and boorish he is.

Hey, the Audubon society and other aligned birder groups are renaming many birds primarily by removing human names from the descriptions, You know, just in case one of those humans committed some sin of today yesterday. You don’t want those birds to be embarrassed in their habitats.

There just has to be somebody in the vast country who Americans and the globe could look up to; who would be tough but rational. A person genuinely human, maybe even with a sense of humor tat wasn't first filtered through advisors. A person with an intelligent understanding of cultural positions and sensitive to budgeting reality. Would Americans ever vote for somebody who said you can't everything because we just can’t afford it.

From observant reader: Foreign wars are a great distraction from

the fact that a bag of Cheetos costs $9.

1974 was a transformational year for me. My dad died. He was a good guy. Dick Nixon, it appears, wasn't. He became the first ever President to resign as the heat in the Watergate kitchen got hotter. Before he left, he made 55MPH the national speed standard to save gasoline. President Ford came aboard and pardoned Nixon unconditionally. The inflation figure soared to 11.5%. The IRA began bombing mainland Britain, and the Kootinai Native American tribe declared war on the United States of America. Insurgencies should be delft with. We learned that everything in this world isn’t instant -- “Lucy” a perfectly preserved 3- to 3.5-million-year-old female skeleton was found in Ethiopia. Yes, everything in this world didn’t begin with the Guttenberg press. Just around the corner from Lucy we had a rumble between Ali and Foreman. The good news for American was that26 yo Stephen King published his first novel, Carrie! Kissinger convinced Israel and Syria to cease fire in the Golan Heights. Frankly, there were not a lot of memorable classic songs in the global recession year of 74. The few are The Way We Were, Midnight at he Oasis, Bennie and the Jets and Sunshine on My Shoulder. People still talk about the movies Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. Also notable were Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Benji, Murder on the Orient Express and The Longest Yard. 1974, was more about disappointments and a struggling economy. But at home we had a our first teenager, uh oh, And the farmers in the back forty were giving us plenty of vegetables to enjoy.

Speaking of rewriting history, the Palestine Protester groups seem to have already rewritten month-old history. And people believe them.

Where is Henry Kissinger when you need him?

America will continue to be at odds with itself until the day that we elect a president who doesn’t just serve half the population.

The Answer:

Number One is Carrie followed by the Shining, It, Needful Things, Pet Cemetery, Misery, Finders Keepers, 11/22/63, Rose Madder and Under the Dome. Personally, I liked Thinner.

Well, we just did 1974. We only have ot wait ten more years until the world plummets into totalitarianism, Mass surveillance and repressive regimentation of people and behavior. Just ten more years, Maybe Ronald Reagan will arrive in the nick of time to save us from 1984. Stay tuned.

I'm thankful we made it past 1984, but I'm not so sure about 2024.
