Obvious.

Today's Tids Issue 5,385

Inevitability Happens:

One of the things I have learned is that too many Americans get their underwear in a bind from all of these protests. Yes, examining year after year where people, and most often youthful exuberant people, join in mass denunciations, I notice nothing really ever happens until what was being denounced runs its own course. It is generally more about where TV cameras must go.

Does that sound apathetic or insightful... as opposed to inciteful

Beneath yesterday's warm handshakes, publicized agreements and diplomatic utterances, lies Taiwan.

Repub Congressman George Santis is a great example of this creeping amorality that is slowly corroding the integrity of the United States. People are rationalizing bad as good, Illegal as legal my personal or organized agenda’s self-satisfying needs over the innate needs of a functional broader society. America, the no consequences country, because it makes people feel good or support an irrational course of action. And it starts at the top. If we ever needed a moral president, it is now.

Just once, I want the prompt for username and password to say, “Close enough”.

The Question:

Name what critics think are Edgar Allen Poe’s five best stories. Bonus: Poe created a detective, C. Auguste Dupin who became the model detective for mystery writers to come from Conan Doyle to Agatha. Dupin appeared in three Poe tales. What were they?

The Headlines:

A new recorded message from Putin reveals that perhaps he has a tender heart after all. When questioned about his feelings after the death of Yevgeny Prigozhin, he assured everyone that he cared and in fact offered condolences to the family two hours before his unfortunate accident.

Tip for a successful marriage: Don’t ask your wife when dinner will be ready while she’s mowing the lawn.

There’s a good and important NFL game tonight that will befuddle the TidsPickers, I'm sure. Several last second field goals were befuddling to many experts in the prediction arena. And some upstart upsets were a little mindboggling. The TP’s were an uninspiring 7-7 bringing the record to 91-58 (61%). This week could be worse, Cin or Balt; Balt or Cin. Critical game between two good teams that also have a proclivity towards stumbling. I go Bengals. There are a lot of tough picks between good teams and puzzlers between a host of losers. The tougher picks are Tenn-Jax, Houston-Arizona, Seattle LAR, Chargers-Pack, Cleve-Pitt, Buff-Jets and Broncs-Vikes and a huge game between the Chiefs and Eagles. SBII? I just gotta Pick the Jags over a Titans team that just doesn’t show up enough, Houston is amazing everybody as Stroud already has rookie of the year honors locked up. Kyler was back for Arizona, but I have become a Texan believer this week. Pack is home and hungry, but the Chargers are playing well. The coin flip says GB. Cleveland and Pitt is a great old-time rivalry and this game is even closer now with Watson going down for the season. Tis good be 0-0, but I'm giving the Steelers the hometown edge. Buffalo is making mistakes, but the Jets will make more. Buffalo. Seattle is in a big game with the Rams, a team with promise that has looked mediocre, but may be finding good vibes now. Stafford returns, but I'll stay with Pete Carroll. Denver is gelling under Peyton and Rusell Wilson is fining his old self. But I still like Minn. KC versus Philadelphia. Right now I'm not so sure about the Chiefs and the Magician. But the Eagles have been less automatic too. But, the birds are bigger. The Eagle Olson wins. Sorry Taylor.

Of the rest I have to pick the Lions over the Brears in the Zoo cup contest. I got Wash over the Giants mainly because the Commanders have a QB. There is no way Dallas can have a letdown big enough to lose to Carolina, Right? But who knows in a year like this. San Fran is back healthy and TB we will find out just how healthy. Miami can run, and LV’s QB looks pretty weak to me despite two recent wins. Gotta go Dolphins. The hold your breath year continues.

There are some interesting singers on The Voice this year and I may be back in there for winner predictions when they go live. There is one twangy, yodletin16 year old classic country singer, Ruby Liegh, who is quite amazing.

One thing I noticed is that Xi speaks like a Philosopher and Joe B like a politician.

Why do we have to press one for English when ther’re just going to transfer us to someone we can't understand anyway?

The Answer:

Number One EAP story acccording to Publishers Weekly is The Telltale Heart. Next is Masque of the Red Death, Cask of Amontillado, Fall of the House of Usher, The Purloined Letter, The Pit and the Pendulum, Ligeia (A favorite of EAP), and William Watson. Bonus: Dupin was best in The Purloined Letter. The other two were Murders in the Rue Morgue and The Mystery of Marie Roget.

I'll be back tomorrow morning with 1972, the year that gave us great TV. And what was better than Roberta Flack especially intis big hit song:
