I need longer weeks.

Today's Tids Issue 5,395

Life is upside down:

November is looking to the past Left us in a wintry blast.

But in the weeks ahead

We’ll feel a love that will last.

There is a national debate tonight between Cal’s Newsome and Fla’s DeSantis on the Fox Network’s Hannity show. Some people are thinking it will give Repubs a new look at DeSantis in action away from the crowded GOP debate stage. But I think it may give Dems and idea of who may be available to replace Biden sometime around March. That is, if Dems can find a way to suck it up and turn on Fox.

There’s little prettier than a beach on a cold wintry day.

The Question:

What is the only country in this world with “Love” in its name.

The Headlines:

--Dow finishes D strong; Nas Not so Hot; Inflation Cooling; November Best Month for 2023.

--Cease Fire Goes for Anter Day.

--Rand Paul Saves Life of Fellow Senator Joanie Ernst Who Choked on Food During Lunch.

--Trump Gag order Reinstated for NY Civil Trial.

The weeks should feel longer when the years dwindle down.

I think the Tids Pickers will be looking at some meaningful games this weekend. Last week we went 10-6 when out of nowhere da Bears woke up to beat the Vikes in the last seconds. We now stand at 110-69 (61.45%). Tonight, we have Seattle at Dallas in what should be a better TNF, if you have Prime. Dallas has looked smooth, but the Seahawks are tough and can be disruptive. But Geno Smith seems ot be wearing out so I will pick D over what my heart feels for Pete Caroll's gang. The other tough Picks are Atlanta and the Jets. Denver and Houston, Detroit and New Orleans, Indy and Tenn, and of course the game of the week, the season – San Fran and the Iggles. The Jets are playing for pride, but the Falcons are playing to stay atop of a division nobody seems to want to win. I’’ll pick Atlanta. Who woulda thunk that the Broncs and the Texans would be a highlight game. Stroud is the real thing But Peyton has Russ Wilson looking like Russ Wilson again and has put together an inspired team. I'll stay with the Broncos. I have Detroit and the saints as a poser because Detroit can be mystifying, and the Saints are another team atop the division nobody wants ot win. I’ll stay with the Lions. Indy and Tenn are in this mix because I just don’t know who to pick. Indy is playing reasonably well and Tenn should be playing better. I think the Titans will play better this week as the Rookie QB gets a little more experience. Ok, Philadelphia looks like a team g that can turn it on any time it wants to. Sam Fran has battled back to respectability. Tis coudlbe a tie, it is that close. I'm going with the Niners.

Of the rest, I have Pitt over Arizona, Minn over Washington, Tampa over hapless Carolina, and KC over GB. Cleveland against the LA Rams is a bit of a mystery because I love the Browns but I'm having trouble feeling confident in their offense now. I'm picking teh Rams. My woeful beloveds, the Pats are against the Chargers who some days show up and on others fade away, Right now the Pats don’t seem to have a QB. I man, really, truly it hurts, but I have to go with the Charges. Cincinnati versus the Jags could have been the other great game of eth week. But without Burrow, the Bengal's are just another team, and Jax is playing well enough to beat what’s left in the Queen City.

1977 changed my life forever. So, it will always be big for me; Something I will never forget. It began with Roslyn Carter standing next to her husband Jimmy as he was sworn in to be President of the United States. It was a year that also set Americans dancing as John Travolta became Tony Manero and the Fever spiked. Pele played his last soccer game and Elvis died at the young age of 42. We gave the canal back to Panama and the Alaska Pipeline opened. Who needs locks when you have pipes. A true American mania began when Star Wars opened in theaters, and the TV series “Roots’ made people think. Roman Polanski’s mind was black throughout, and he escaped justice by fleeing to Europe. Several creeps said, “But he made great movies.” NYC went black for 24 hours and over 4000 soulless humans were arrested for looting and destroying other people's property. Indira Ghandi stepped down as Premier of India. But people were now dancing and flying among the stars, and were pretty happy in this first year of Carter time. Fleetwood Mac started showing up on teh charts, as did bands like Foreigner. But the top songs were Tonight's the Night, I Just Want to be your Everything, Best of my Love and of curse Evergreen which ended yesterday's Tids. ABBA showed up with Dancing Queen and Jimmy Buffet gave us the iconic Margaritaville. There were lots of fun TV shows grabbing a America in 77 – like Laverne and Shirley, Happy Days, Three's Company, Charlies Angels, Barney Miller and M*A*S*H. Inflation was rising, the Dow as back down at 832 and gas was all the way up to 65 Cents/Gal, but you could get a bikini for $9.00. You could get a cool wrist AM radio for $9.75 and the complete Barbie RV with Bicycle and Dune Buggy for $72.00. And when 77 ended I was smiling broadly.

Lifetime TV may be losing ratings number because for some reason this family movie channel is adding a moderate sex scene to a new Christmas movie. Execs are quick to say, we are still a family network. But of course, they leaked the publicity rather well.

“Black lives Maga”! It appears that the founder of RI's chapter of BLM is says his organization is supporting Trump; says the Dems are doing nothing for the black population. But then BLM people say this guy isn’t on the RI BLM roster at all. But he was two years ago on or about the time of its founding. Maybe the guy doesn't exist at all, and AI is just practicing for the future. Or maybe he is just a clever guy trying to use BLM for his own purposes.

In many respects, Newsome and DeSantis represent the extremes of each of their parties to a large majority of middle thinking Americans.

About a week ago I wrote a tidlet, “Where is Henry Kissinger when you Need him.” I guess we know now, He was one of those bigger than life personalities several decades ago, yet it appears more of a controversial world influencer than I imagined at the time. Some are saying he was a master negotiator and visionary and others are branding him a mass murderer. Hmmm.

The increase in crime in a few Red States is due to the growing crime in their cities run by Democrat Mayors.

The Answer:

I had a great friend who was a Slovenian, and he truly loved his country of heritage.

Gotta run folks. See you tomorrow.
