Day is done, gone the sun.

Today's Tids Issue 4,658

This we know, God is nigh:

Did you notice that it seemed more people this weekend were more focused about whether or not a beach would be open than how they could pay tribute to those who gave everything? You know, like the meaning of the day. Or maybe, that was just the media focus.

I think they should have called it “Physical distancing”. We already have too much social distancing, and it has divided the country.

I get chills every time I hear Taps.

Younger people are slowly convincing themselves that coronavirus is not a problem for them. That could become a problem for a lot of people who are not them.

If a horn player gets sick, does he have coronet virus?

The Question:

Forbes Magazines, which ranks the wealthy and doers, also has a list of the “Wealthiest Fictional Characters”. Name the Top Ten

The Headlines:

--Americans Remember, And Remember Again; Americans Look Back At Our Heroes, And Pray for Our Future.

--Euro-Asian Positive Stock Activity Bodes Well For Tuesday Openings.

--Trump Bans Non-Americans Traveling To US From Brazil.

--President Threatens To Pull Repub Convention Out Of NC Unless They Eliminate Sensible Rules For Safety.

--Taiwan’s Tsei Pledges To Support Hong Kong.

--Americans Seem To Forget Covid Risk; Swarming Beaches.

If you ask me right now if College football will be played his fall, I will say, a flat yes. Sometimes you can feel the waves of energy leading to inevitability. And I’m feeling that today. University presidents are slowly convincing themselves that their life will be easier with boatloads of College Football revenue coming in.

In 1844 Sam Morse famously sent the first message over his telegraph system, “What hath God wrought.” It seems to me he at the time was envisioning the smart phone and tweeting.

I have noticed a distinct increased use of Covid-19 as an excuse to abandon solid voting security regulations. Almost all by Dems.

I know a woman who runs the operation for a Weight Loss Doctors company. She tells me they have never been busier, which is very good for news for the Q2 Earnings report of Frito-Lay corporate parent Pepsi.

The title of The NY Times editorial board Memorial Day opinion piece was “Why does the U.S. Military Celebrate White Supremacy.” There are thousands upon thousands of stories that would celebrate the valor of men and women giving up their lives ensuring American unique freedoms like that that of the press. But the forgetful “Grey old Lady” chose to speak about a fort named Benning. How small has our national intellect become?

I doubt if we will ever see AAA making roadside calls to replace a Prius battery. A Toyota replacement battery for that hybrid costs $2,500 plus about 2.5 hours of labor.

A fairly recent survey asked: “Are you drinking while working at home?” About 1/3 said yes, they drink while they work. Hawaii was tops, way up at 67%. Not far behind was Rhode Island at 60%. Next at 50% were New Hampshire and Virginia. The lowest surprisingly to many was Arkansas away down at but 8%. Next lowest were Maine and Delaware at 15%. Among the most populous states we have NY and Cal at 38% and Ill and Texas at 23 and 22. Men0 stocked up their workplace with beer, but women, it tells us, prefer fancy cocktails, meaning they might have to hire a personal bartender, which would raise questions about social distancing. Tis a complex world in which we live.

Every golfing president, Dem and Repub, of the past 7 decades has been criticized for playing golf. So, it was just a matter of time until we heard Biden shouting, Fore!

Our big statewide newspaper announced Sunday morning that because of an earlier deadline, “Late breaking news will be a day later”. Hmmm. I think they should replace, “Breaking” and “News” with “Stale”. Thus continues the sad saga of failing print newspapers. And, my heart aches.

This venerable, oldest continuous newspaper in America used to have a slogan “Baked Fresh every day.” Now, it’s, “Thawed and baked when the accountants turn on the oven.”

My biggest dilemma this morning was whether to spell it cornet or coronet. One is correct and one is punnable.

The Answer:

Number One is Bruce Wayne. I could see that. The rest are Tony Stark, Scrooge McDuck, Richie Rich, C. Montgomery Burns, Jed Clampett, Dr. Carlisle Cullen, Thurston Howell III, Smaug, Mr. Monopoly, Chuck Bass, Jay Gatsby, Gordon Gecko, Adrian Veidt, Artemis Fowl II, Tywin Lannister, Sir Topham Hatt, Lucille Bluth and Tooth Fairy. Of course, the Tooth Fairy. Is the tooth Fairy really Bill gates?

Today is Memorial Day, but on Friday I wrote words that, at least to me, I could not improve to say what I feel. So, I say it again today:

I look across the fields where soldiers died:

There are no parades this weekend. There are no concerts amongst the grand DC memorials to wars past; by statues in cities, towns and villages across the land. Memories of those loved don’t need parades and concerts. They live on in hearts. The moments of happiness, the despair of tragic death. This a weekend that doesn’t need to be produced because what it means it is always there. In our isolation we will remember. When walking on beaches and in open spaces we will remember. While sitting on rocks above crashing seas we will remember. Because what is important is in the hearts of those left to love the memories. There will be no parades. But we will feel the comfort in the warmth of heaven’s sun.

For those who fought for freedom to believe, and to persevere neath the accusations of the snake-eyed intolerant, I give you Kate Smith:
