Today's Tids Issue 5,085

How did we do:

The big salvation in today’s stock market with increasing uncertainty is apparently, the old adage, “Flight to quality”. In other words, pipe-dream stocks maybe out. Justifying unsubstantiated valuations may be a dying art for a while. Maybe it will at least add to some stability.

A couple of cows were smoking a joint and playing cards. That’s right, the steaks were pretty high. (Thanks to a reader of significant intelligence and powers of observation.)

Editor’s Note: Some doofus delivering sheetrock to a building next door forgot that the giant crane on his huge truck might take down power lines. It did, and it cracked telephone pole in the process. They are replacing that right now, meaning my power will go off for several hours so I could be a little late today. At least today is a balmy 40 degrees. Btw, the police caught the doofus who fled the crime. Let’s hope his company has insurance.

I am a procrastinator. I’m afraid of Saturday the 14th.

The Question:

What are metrics.

The Headlines:

--Stock Markets Turn Around In AM After Tuesday Tragedy, But Ssiks Again In PM; New Housing Starts Rise In December; Morgan Stanley Profits Surge Offsetting Earlier Banking Profit Woes.

--Blinken After Meeting In Ukraine Says Russia Could Attack “On Very Short Notice”.

--NY AG Lititia James Outlines Possible Areas Of Fraudulent Activities And Misleading Statements By Trump Organization; James Seeking To Force Ivanka Ad Don Jr. To Cooperate.

--Biden Plans Give-Away Of 400 Million Masks.

--Boris Johnson Facing New Pressure To Leave From Own Party; “Tory MP Says, “In The Name Of God, Go.”

Agreeing to a contract was most likely a rare incident in the lives of the vast majority of people in the world, especially in remote third world countries. But today we, and those in the depths of remote jungles and upon desert isles agree to give our lives away every other day when joining up to receive a app!  I wonder how much I owe for agreeing to all of those boiler plate agreements.

The other reason I may be late is because I keep on running out to watch the electric company at work, just about 22 feet from this laptop with the bad “N” key. The National Grid guys were all a great bunch. And genius at finding solutions to what seemed really complicated to me.

I certain instances I like to use the phrase construction like “More Something” instead of a single comparative word like “Somethinger”. Grammar rules generally do ot like “More Something”. Screw em’.

NPR has been trying to turn a totally bogus mask flap Supreme Court story into an incident reflecting an uncooperative court full of bile and infighting. Justice Sotomayor and Gorsuch, who were the subjects of the alleged disharmony issued a joint statement: “"While we may sometimes disagree about the law, we are warm colleagues and friends...". Other media even more averse to harmony in America ginned up the report with more hyperbole.

Wouldn’t you think that “Discovery Channel” would be on a different channel every day.

Michael Weatherly’s TV show “Bull” will end in May. That’s prompting fans to hope for a Ziva, DiNozzo reunion on NCIS. A lot of people who like that show would love to see it. including me.

The Answer:

Metrics are measures of quantitative assessment commonly used for assessing, comparing, and tracking performance or production. Generally, a group of metrics will typically be used to build a dashboard that management or analysts review on a regular basis to maintain performance assessments, opinions, and business strategies. But the concept is easily applied to daily life issues. They a rebuilt into our minds: My wife smiled. How do I keep it going? Metrics are generally opposite to what Politicians say when trying offer solutions to problems. They are not quantifying.  Metrics is significant in computing operations requiring constant feedback, analysis and adjustment against measurable objectives.

Wow, that hurt my brain.

Actually, most reasonable people have always employed a form of metrics in gaging accomplishment. It is just now with computers you can make better spreadsheets and more colorful charts and graphs.,

Well, the power came back on, but the Tids didn’t seem any brighter.
