Shame on America.

Today's Tids Issue 4,814

Do we still have a chance?

Yesterday the USA looked like one of those countries of which I have always said, I’m glad I don’t live there.

“A riot is the language of the unheard.” —Martin Luther King Jr.

Mitch McConnell gave a great speech yesterday.

“A group of psychologists say they have discovered twenty-three different body language indicators that show whether or not a person is lying. If you would like to see all twenty-three at the same time, they recommend taking a guided tour of the White House.” –Conan O’Brien.

“I had a hen who count her own eggs. She was a Mathemachicken.” Shoot me!

The Question:

Who are considered The Most Influential News Anchors of All Time?

The Headlines:

--Political Sides Taking Potshots At Each Other In Aftermath Of Capitol Building Invasion.

--Markets Rise After Biden Certification; New Jobless Claims Decline Slightly To Still High 787,000; Service Sector Business Increases More Than Expected In December.

--Congress Certifies Biden; Trump Promises Orderly Transition.

--Facebook Blocks Trump Indefinitely From Platform.

--Trump Admin Considering Adding Global $1.5 Trillion Businesses Alibaba And Tencent To China Investment Ban; Most In Investment Biz Consider It Unlikely, Or Short Term.

I’ve been complaining lately that there is nothing new to report. And then we have yesterday, which has already been over reported.

I would guess that the vast majority of people dislike being as angry as US citizens have become. The media likes angry division because sue it improves viewer or readership. The politicians love division because they can play it for votes. And frankly most of the anger that is shown repeatedly is mainly due to the spotlight sowna upon right and left extremes. I suspect that most people would much prefer not being angry. Why have we become so beholden to the media and politicians when there is so much other wonderful stuff going on all over the world,

“A man without bias cannot write interesting history.”  --Bertrand Russell.

Hmmm.

Trump was certainly integral in the storming of the US Capitol, unheard of since 1814. But this aggressive division splitting the country was in place way before the Trumpster came along. Media consultants have found that they can best drive candidates to victory by seeding Hatred into the hearts of generally good people.

I think protesting has gotten out of control. To me, protesting has become, plain and simple, extortion. People call it a right under the first amendment that includes Freedom of Speech, which incidentally has become the most abused amendment of all of them. But the od maxim still holds true – Freedom comes with responsibility.

The use of the word Impeachment has become much too frivolous among politicians. And as I observe some of them talking about it I don’t believe they even understand it. BYT, DT has been already impeached.

The riots of last summer that were burning down cities, were enabled by that MLK line above.

“If work is so terrific, how come they have to pay you to do it?” George Carlin.

One reason it will be difficult for white conservatives to come to the table and discus reasonably with the left is because so many good honest, giving white conservatives have been routinely called racist by an irresponsible left. That is, if the left is even remotely interested in hearing anything from the right. Which they have shown over the years they are not. And the media has never called them on it.

The Answer:

#10 is John Chancellor. Going up we have Hugh Downs, Jane Pauley, Ted Koppel, Harry Reasoner, Tom Brokaw, Peter Jennings, Edward R. Murrow, David Brinkley and Number One, you have probably guessed – Walter Cronkite. I was pretty much a Brinkley fan. Here is the list form11 up to 25: Lesley Stahl. Tim Russert, Diane D Sawyer, Chet Huntley, Howard K. Smith, Sam Donaldson, Roger Mudd, Dan Rather, Eric Severeid, Andrea Mitchell, Frank Reynolds, Barbara Walters, Jim Lehrer, Brit Hume and at #25 Cokie Roberts. I liked Cokie Roberts. Jessica Savitch (#27) may have moved up higher except for her unfortunate, quirky death. Cute H Katie Cuuric was # 35 just after Christiane Amanpour. I thought Connie Chung (#31) was pretty good

If they wanted to, I believe the media could do a lot to bring the country together, maybe more than any other group. But maybe media as we knew it has in fact been passed by the not so hot social media influence, which is whimsical at best and intensely ideologically driven as its norm.

Maybe everybody should just fall in love and forget about news entirely.

“I’m going to be singing Dreams and Rhiannon when I’m 75 – and that’s just fine with me. I just hope my chiffon doesn’t get tangled in my rocking chair.” — Stevie Nicks
