“V” for Victory.

Today's Tids Issue 4,812

America the what?...

More people are telling me that are tuning out politics. It has just become a frustrating, useless exercise trying to figure them out. I can figure them out. The pols will do anything to get votes and stay in power; tromp on the rights of millions to justify singular ideologies; it includes entirely missing the needs of the people.

“I taught my kids about taxes by eating 38% of their ice cream”  --Conan O’Brien.

The headline this morning of the now diluted Providence Journal editorial said, “The real answer to Police violence”. I think more relevant headline would be, “The real answer to criminal violence.”

Word Origin Department:

“Quarantine”: Quarantine comes from “Quarantena” which means 40 days. It is due to the 40-day isolation of shops and people practiced as a measure of disease prevention related to the plague most likely referring to the action in Venice Italy. At least it isn’t 40 days. Maybe that’s the problem… it takes 40 days to work. Does Fauci know this?

The Question:

Name the top five movies of Glenn Close.

“If you have selfish ignorant citizens, you’re gonna get selfish ignorant leaders.”  --George Carlin.

Being a devout snack and fast-food guy, I thought you might like to see some early Fast Food Trends for 202i. Micky D is upgrading its Fried Chicken probably to catch up to Chick-fil-A and Popeye’s. Wendy is has also moved to a bigger fried chicken sandwich. I’m fried chicken guy so I keep my eye on this one. Chipotle is going to Cauliflower rice to reduce Carbs on menus. I’ll take carbs and real rice, thank toy. Dunkin’ Donuts is going a “Veggie Power” morning sandwich featuring Morningstar Farms black bean patty with an egg white omelet infused with spinach, bell peppers a onions and cheddar, Ugh, sounds dreadful! If these three bigs are doin’ it, expect the rest to follow.

There is clearly a trend towards eating for health instead of enjoyment. This morning I was watching on TV a funeral for a very old a really close friend. The daughter who is a micro biologist Phd, spoke first and said how she was amazed that her mom (Who she loved dearly) kept in her auto center console full with candy “for an Emergency”, which the daughter commented laughingly, instead of water and an energy bar. Yes the new generations have lost their touch with happiness.

Q.  Why do you never see elephants hiding in a tree?

A.  Because they’re very good at it.

It would be interesting to update polls about whether Americans favor or disfavor the terms “In God We Trust” as a national motto. and “Under God” in the pledge. 2002: Newsweek – 87% for; 2002: Gallup – 90% for; 2004: Newsweek – 87% for; 2004: CBC – 85%; 2005; MSNBC – 89%. The denuding of American tradition has been significant in recent years; Are people giving in to the relentless drumbeat of the left?

I don’t like to use all caps in writing. It ruins the flow and disrupts the concentration of the reader. Good points don’t need bold face or caps. Period.

The Great Jack Ma is missing. Yes, the Alibaba eCommerce whiz and Chief exec of Ant has been missing for two months, ever since he criticized the Chinese Financial industry regulators and China’s state-owned banks. Nobody has seen him for two months and nobody is talking. The speculation is that he may have faced the fate of China’s predilection of “forcibly detaining not only dissidents and human rights lawyers, but also troublesome business executives.” It is thought that the public rebuke may be a warning that Beijing has lost is its patience with the outsized power of technology moguls. Welcome to communism.

“Among the top Google searches of 2014 were Ebola and the movie ‘Frozen.’ One leaves you with something highly infectious that’s impossible to get out of your system. The other is Ebola.” --Conan

The Answer:

I always liked Glenn Close beginning with Garp, and also in the Natural (#18).  Number One is Fatal Attraction. The rest in order are Dangerous Liaisons, The Wolfe, Cookies Fortune, Albert Nobbs, Reversal of Fortune, The World According to Garp, 101 Dalmatians and #10 Hamlet. I always lied The Stepford Wives original, but unfortunately she and a host of big Stars were in the not so good mediocre sequel. (#25)

“Ukraine announced plans to open Chernobyl, their nuclear disaster site, to tourists. They say it’s just like Disneyland, except the 6-foot mouse is real.”  --Conan O’Brien.
