You make dreams come true.

Today's Tids Issue 4,995

Do something:

Isn’t it nice when dreams come true? Yet when they don’t, you can always dream they might.

The Dems are smiling at their success in Cal and you can be sure they will be using the same fear strategy in the congressional elections of 2022 – A vote for a Republican is a vote for the return of the man who condoned the attack on the capitol building. The 2022 campaign has begun, and fear will be the staple of the Dem’s attack.

The great Roberto, Roberto Clemente that is, is easily one of my all-time favorite baseball players.

The Question:

Who was Williama C. Durant?

Today is National Guacamole Day. Count me out.

Have you noticed that most of the big trumped up news stories are based on somebody having video of something?

I dream that someday my putting, chipping, irons and driver would all be working equally well on the same day. So far no luck. But I keep on dreaming.

I’d like my town to become much more than a tourist town. Because of high grade naval operations and support companies, it has the potential of being a pretty good high-tech center. The problem now may be that because of all this tourism opportunism we may have priced housing way beyond the pocketbooks of anybody who might be working in that tech sector. You know, real jobs in companies that don’t move out during the winter.

Well, the Ole’ Tids Pickers went 10-6 opening week. There were times when we looked to finish about 13-3. Buffalo let us down, and the Browns had it. Green Bay certainly sucked. The Pats played anything but like my beloveds, but it appears they did discover they may have a QB for the future. The posers this week are Bills-Dolphins, Bears-Bengals, Saints-Panthers, Titans-Seahawks and probably the game of the week – Steelers-Raiders. The Bills really need this road win against a key divisional opponent. They will get beyond their press clippings to win it. The Bennies with a healthy Joe Burrow look like a competitive team, but the Bears won nicely last week too, My heart is going with Cincy. Was GB bad or are the Saints for real. It seems James Winston is learning how to throw to his own receivers. That will be dangerous for the Panthers. I go Saints. I’m a little iffy on the Russell Wilson led Seattle this year, but the Titans are iffier. I guess I have to pick the home team Seahawks. Pitt played Buffalo tough last week. But that’s what Pitt always does, paly tough. But Raiders are coming together nicely. I’m going with Steelers at home. Should be a good game.

Of the rest I go Skis over Giants in a brawl, Broncos over Jax in a breeze, Browns way over Texans, Rams barely over Colts, Bucs bludgeoning Falcons, Cardinals flying by Vikes, Cowboys corralling Chargers, Chiefs struggling over Ravens and Green Bay reawaken to beat Lions. The Niners-Eagles game could be a poser because Philly is at home. SF lost top runner. But San Fran Is better. My beloved Pats should leave the Jets at the gate. Will Mac Jones be as good the second time out. Yes. He is solid.,

Doctors are telling older patients to forget organic food. At their age they should get all the preservatives they can find. Diet coke anybody?

Retail stock traders don’t seem to be buying “the Dip” this time around as they have for the previous 18 months during miner market pull-backs. Will that soften our bounce back potential through year end?

In national elections it is probably not a good strategy for Repubs to run on a program of anti-Mask, and anti-vaccination. Most people don’t look at their personal safety decisions as being political.

The Answer:

William Crapo Durant was a leading, pioneering industrialist who with Fred Smith founded General Motors and with Louis Chevrolet founded Chevrolet. As wealthy owner of a successful Carriage and Cart company he saw the coming rise of the automobile and bought a fledgling car operation called Buick. He quickly made it the biggest passing early car giants like Ford, Cadillac and Oldsmobile. But his real drive in buying Buick was to establish safety standards for the emerging industry before the Government got to it. Then he imagined a large company of independent self-governing Auto companies under one big umbrella, which became General Motors. It worked fine like that until about the 1980’s when the accountants began design the cars. and the fine competitive companies lost their identity to homogenization.

I wonder if during mid-season the NFL will relinquish and bring Thursday night football back to free TV.

I always have dreams about something.
