Fed on a ledge.

Today's Tids Issue 5,056

Incongruities:

A journalist misrepresenting the animal in a report about antelopes was accused of delivering fake gnus.

I put on a CD this morning that I know I bought years ago in one of my favorite discount department stores, Lechmere. It went out of business rather suddenly primarily because of financial manipulation and greed. It was a sad song.

Movie critics often fall in love with the director, and base their opinions on that love affair, instead of watching the movie the way people do. That’s why after the Oscars, you hear people say, “That won an award?”

I remember when it seemed almost everybody had a toboggan. I loved my toboggan.

That tornado 250-mile rampage is one of the sadder, more tragic natural disasters this great nation has ever see. Unfortunately, even before that last soul has been found, even before that last tear drifting down a cheek has dried, the stage is being set for law suits and the press seems eager to revel in headlines like, “Is warming killing Americans?”

This is a really big week for the FED. and the eyes of Wall Street will be upon that meeting which will be all about inflation and the potential minefield ahead if it changes polices too fast. Some are saying this is their most important decision in decades. It seems it is just a mere hair between a stabilized economy for 2022 and soft landing, and a resounding crash due to clamping down too quickly in the face of an all-time high corporate debt.

Tonight is the final singing night for The Voice competition. So far, it seems that Girl Named Tom is the front runner, and form my viewpoint they should be. But the final 5 has a lot of quality in there, so we’ll see.

The Question:

Al Unser the great Indy driver just died. He was one of just four who have won that granddaddy of great car races four times. Name the other three. Bonus: There was a well-known “Jam” Session in 1956 featuring four of the musical paragons of the day. Who do you think they were? (Hint: One was not Zeke Smuckers) Extra Bonus: Who was Elmer Lach? Super Extra Bonus: There are many types of antelopes. Name five.

The Headlines:

--Stocks Lethargic Ahead Of Fed Meeting.

--Effects Of Tornado Disaster Gets Drearier And Drearier. In Kentucky Ingratitude Is Destroyed As The Cold Of Winter Approaches.

--Elon Musk Named Time Mag “Person Of The Year”

--CV Deaths Approach 800K; Hospitals Easing Vaccination Mandates To Help With Growing Labor Shortage.

A lot of people have said there is no such thing as a dumb question. I have been watching a lot of sports and political press conferences and I think there definitely is such a thing.

Hey, I forgot Otis Readg as one of the great rock singers to die much too young. He was 26. And that brings to mind, Ricky Nelson.

For almost everybody, the best preset each Christmas mornings are memories of Christmas past, of the smiles and laughter of family, and joy of at special day’s meaning… and how even now we still remember the thrill of those moments as children rushing down to see what Santa brought.

I was out walking yesterday morning when for some reason I remembered a great old friend and a dissuasion we were having around 1993 about a recent research finding that said, “Married men live longer”. He thought about it, turned to me and said, “If you call that living.” He died quite unexpectedly shortly thereafter. Now I should probably be careful during the next lightning storm. Never underestimate the power of a woman.

Oder hiders like Febreze seem to be for people who cover up a smell instead of cleaning it out.

I have to believe that a lot of people suck it up to eat food that tastes bad just to be trendy. Kale comes to mind.

Frankly, Chris Wallace is my favorite Fox News Personality. It will be sad to lose his voice. I wonder what CN promised to lure him there amidst the most ideological staff on the tube. He is seeming to say he will go where there are no politics, a new life for him.

You knew that the NE Patriots were in a bye week when you saw so may shoppers yesterday wearing Pats garb. Do you think the Pat’s organization opted for a late bye week so their fans would have time shop for Christmas? See, Bill Belichick is no grinch.

Has the USA ever been so irreverently divided before Facebook, Twitter and the rest of them?

Military bivouac truism: “Coffee tastes better if the latrines are dug downstream from an encampment.”

We have to be careful about how we view stock indices in these times of soaring averages driven by break-away big hitter popular trendy stocks. For instance, according to Goldman just five stocks have accounted for 51% of the S&P returns since the beginning of May – Microsoft, Google, Apple, Nvidia and Teska.

The Answer:

The three other 4-Time champs were AJ Foyt, Rick Mears and Helio Castroneves, Bonus: That famous recorded Jam session featured Johnny Cash, Elvis, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis. Extra Bonus: Elmer Lach held the all-time NHL scoring record from 1951 until 1953 when he lost that record by one point to the iconic Maurice Richard. Isn’t say that everybody remembers Maurice but so few remember Elmer. Super Extra Bonus: There are probably about 70 some of these speedy, graceful animals. Here are some: Gnu, Impala, Eland, Kudu, Springbok, Nyala, Gazelle, Lechwe, Gerenuk, Topi, Hartebeest, Bontebok, Roan, Gemsbok, Scimitar Oryx, Tsessebe and Klipspringer.

One of the little irksome things of this new Techno-Life is Map Quasit spending five or six lines of directions telling you how to get out of your garage and neighborhood. Do you think AI will eventually consider humans as idiots.

When two egoists meet, it’s an I for an I.
