Home is where the heart is.

Today's Tids Issue 5054:

Home fires burning brightly:

It was just announced that the number one cable entertainment network is the Hallmark Channel. That should be nice to hear  these angry days since the movie channel is about families and holidays like Christmas and Valentine’s Day. It is apolitical (Except for those who view happiness as political) and it steers away from politics and themes that denigrate religions. It’s about finding romantic love ad general goodness, and all good things that are most important to strive for, Maybe it’s the highest rated because it reflects what Americas truly are, and not how they are painted by snippets in the news.

After several days of through the roof market action, I am never surprised I this current era when we have retraction.

I told my girlfriend that it looked like she was drawing her eyebrows too high. She looked surprised.

A kid wearing EarPods is unlikely to be very impressed when you tell them that you can put a seashell to your ear and hear the ocean. I loved simpler times when I was naive. Hey, maybe I still am naive because in my heart I never stop feeling the basic goodness of people. I think I’ll walk the beach today and fid a nice seashell.

The Question:

The John Birch society was founded in 1958. What was its purpose?

The next big phenomena boosting out of nowhere tech companies will probably be Virtual Reality. We have heard of it for years, but something special seems to be happening there now. In fact Apple stock has been attaining new records based in part on their promise to be there big in 2022. Get ready to leave your own little planet if you want be accepted in the new normal. Ugh.

The Tids Pickers went 10-4 to bring the year to 130-65-1 (67%). It appears that time is running out to make 75% (I have always been a dreamer.) Ok this is the time of year when more games become meaningful. And this year, that may be truer than ever before. Let’s run through some of the so-called easier picks. I have The Titans over the Jags, a finally improving Seahawks over the Texans, Denver over a newly buoyed Detroit in a close one, the Chargers over a QB-Less Giants and Green Bay enjoying a week back against da Bears. I had the Saints and Jets down as an easy NO pick but something is telling me that this might be a Jets upset. Nah.

The tough picks begin tonight with Steelers at Vikes. Minn disappointed last week and Pitt rose up from their season long lethargy. But Minn is at home and I’m giving them another chance. The rest of the posers are Falcons-Panthers, Ravens-Browns, Cowboys-WFT, Raiders-Chiefs, Bills-Bucs and Niners-Bengals. Maybe the game of the week is LA Rams and Arizona. Phew! I like Atlanta’s Ryan as QB over Carolina with no QB. I don’t think the Ravens are as invincible as some noted experts. I’m picking the Browns to finally win a big one. The hottest team right now is phoenix rising WFT. This battle against Dallas is for all the division marbles. I’m sticking with Ron Rivera’s team. Another long time, huge division rivalry is Chiefs-Raiders. I just think that KC is putting it together again and LV has just been missing lately.

Continuing on: The Bills are desperate after last week’s loss. The Bucs look pretty good again. The Brady-Gronk duo is just one of the best ever. And that is just one of several Brady-WR duos to stop. Buffalo to go down again in the Bucs Home field. 9Brady wins one for his old boss) The Niners and Bengals both slipped last week. (I picked both to win). Wunderkind seems to be developing some imperfections. Do I give this Cincy team one more chance at home? Yes, I do. It will be a nail biter. Today the Cardinals are rated #1 in NFL land. At the beginning of the year The Rams were bestowed the Super Bowl. Phoenix is at home and two of their absolutely key players are back. LA just isn’t putting it together. This will be a war. I have to believe that the Rams will mess up something. Go Cards.

A pretty cool home in our town just sold for $23 mil. It was sold by a personal injury lawyer who had bought it I disrepair out of the estate of Felix De Weldon, creator of one of the most famous statures of all: the Iwo Jima Marine sculpture. If I had a extra $23 il, it is a spot above the active harbor where I wouldn’t mid living.

Today is National Llama Day. If you happen to come across a llama walking aimlessly down a country lane, say hi. It would appreciate it.

Heard in heaven: Any time a person with a journalism degree writes a story about a celebrity getting a new hair style, Walter Cronkite punches an angel.

Emotion has always been an ingredient in the movement of stock prices, but today people actually invest in the sound of over active heartbeats.

The Answer:

In Indianapolis, retired candy manufacturer Robert H.W. Welch, Jr., establishes the John Birch Society, a right-wing organization dedicated to fighting what it perceives to be the extensive infiltration of communism into American society. Welch named the society in honor of John Birch, considered by many to be the first American casualty in the struggle against communism. In 1945, Birch, a Baptist missionary and U.S. Army intelligence specialist, was killed by Chinese communists in the northern province of Anhwei. Robert Welch made a lot of people happy with his Junior Mints, Sugar Babies and Sugar Daddies. His company was bought by Oreo cookie maker Nabisco. Welch’s so be went on to become CEO and Charman of the Board until it was sold to RJR.

I wonder when somebody will take down the Iwo Jima Marie monument as being unfair to Japan. You have to wonder what Robert Welch would be fighting for today.

If an anonymous comment goes unread, is it still irritating?
