So, the Repubs have decided to nominate Steve Scalise. I'm totally not surprised. Coalescing will be important with the big elections just about a year away. A functioning Congress could pave the way for positive unintended consequences, like creating more favorable environment for electing conservatives. It’s funny how politics work. Let’s hope, if Scalise makes it through the gauntlet, that he lasts. The last thing this country needs are musical chair speaker selection.  

 

Politicians count on people not remembering.  So do climate changers. 

 

But people will always remember the last music concert they went to. BTW, the Taylor Swift concert movie opens Friday the 13th. Talk about coining money...! Jason Vorhees will probably enjoy the teen audience.

Internet buying seems efficient until you have to spend an hour on the phone trying to correct a merchant error. With somebody who doesn’t speak English too well. 

 

I never felt I missed anything by not doing well in language courses. Yeah, and I know, many of you think I'm talking about English grammar. 

 

You have to wonder how many of Hamas weapons are those left behind when Biden rushed to leave Afghanistan.

It is the era of communist threats that would spawn the popular TV series, “I led Three Lives”. About FBI Agent Herb Philbrick chasing down communists. I knew his daughter Connie. I was seriously afraid of Polio, perhaps the most frightening thing of my lifetime. Even more than “Duck and Cover” in case of an A-Bomb dropping. Yeah, that would work.  I met a new girl in town from West Virginia, I eventually married her. Another great musical starring Gene Kelly, “Singing in the Rain, Premiered. In the ridiculous to the sublime department, Mother Teresa opened a home for the dying and destitute in Calcutta while here Americans only had eyes for the new Mr. Potato Head. People here were also loving the cars with Automatic transmission. Nelson Mandella was arrested, “Today” Show went live on NBC and the “Diary of Anne Franck” was published. 2 out of three homes now had telephones and the girls got married at the average age of 20. Brtish singer and WWII darling Vera Lynn had the top song – Auf Wiedersehn Sweetheart.” Hank Williams had Jumbalaya. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause, You Belong to Me, Blue Tango, Here in my Heart and Wheel of Fortune were among the top hits. After “Singing the Rain”, the top movies were High Noon and The Quiet Man. I was experiencing the agony of two-a-day football practices on dusty fields in hot August. Life was good.  

 

Everybody cries for transparency, but I think more gets done behind closed doors.

Adlai Stevenson was quite the intellectual, a great orator, but only won the "Solid South” -- all Southeast states -- except Virginia and Tennessee. Ike had 440 Electoral Votes and 39/48 states. The VPs in the race were Richard Nixon, who had the greatest “Anti Communist Credentials” and the Dems had Alabaman John Sparkman. Strom Thurman ran as a third-party candidate. 

 

Just remember, you know more than the politicians.
