Sail on. Sail on. Sail on.

Today's Tids Issue 5,358

Eyes down:

Happy Columbus Day, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!

I believe that just about everybody in America would agree that the USA was built upon the creative talent, determination and strong backs of immigrants of all kinds. So, I am just sick and tired of those people who use that misguided logic that to justify the unlawfulness at the borders. Drives me nutty.

Is it ignorance or apathy that's destroying the world today? I don't know and don't really care

The Question:

What do you think are the most common words used in songs? Bonus: Who were the stars in the movie “Exodus”?

The Headlines:

--Israel Defense Minister Calls for Full Siege of Gaza; Rocket Barrages Continuing with Hits near Jerusalem.

--Wall Street Declares Holiday Against Ravaging Retirement Accounts; Markets Closed.

--Repubs to Elect New Speaker This Week; Scalise and Jordan in Running.

--Mack Truck Workers Joining UAW on Strike’ 4,000 There Reject Company Offer.

--Harvard Prog Claudia Goldin Gets Nobel Economic Prize for Work on Workplace Gender Gap.

I have a very good friend who was born in Isarel. In fact, his grandparents were among the original settlers. Remember the movie and book, Exodus. He does... from firsthand accounts. He once told me that his mother and relatives there and the rest got used to bombs and air raids. But somehow this weekend seemed different. Somehow this seemed like a do or die moment.

I decided today to minimize my cynicism and sarcasm in respect to the suffering of Israeli peoples. Nothing is funny when bodies are lying in fields.

The Patriots just seem to look like they don’t know how to play football anymore.

Pure evil has never been so vivid as when seen up close in the slaughter of innocents at the music festival in Isarel.

Mom was happy with 1950 as I began wearing a newfangled shirt that befuddled many – the oxford cloth button down. Still do. Mom was happy to see me grow out of a fascination with saddle stitched gaberdine pegged pants. What was I thinking? His year produced an odd set of emotions among people as the Korean War began, McCarthy assumed power in the Senate and Charles Schultz gave us Peanuts. On TV everybody was watching old Hopalong Cassidy movies. Arthur Godfrey was at the top of the heap. Fireside Theater and Show of Shows premiered on TV. The top songs were “Buschel and a Peck”, “Good Night Irene,” and “Mona Lisa”. Coool jazz was in. Guys and Dolls opened on Broadway. Everybody was chasing communists and congress passed laws forbidding their existence, or something like that. In case you are interested I found my first true love in a girl named Jill. But I played a lot of basketball with Bonnie. Yes, I had edged into teendom.

A headline this morning read, “Tourism began again in Maui.” Is that supposed to be a good thing? What about the people how lived there and lost everything. Are they supposed to be happy that gawkers can go back and live in luxury while islanders still in shock struggle to survive.

Picking winners in the NFL has never been more challenging. On any Sunday, mediocre teams have been winning and the anointed greatest of all time teams regularly seem to lose. It has just been weird. But San Fran is living up to its headlines

If you ask me, politics has become insane. The anger between peoples with different political views is a much bigger threat to the sanity and stability of America than climate change

What did the grape say when it got stepped on? Nothing - but it let out a little whine.

I have noticed around here that a popular addition to the Halloween yard décor is giant realistic looking skeletons. Yikes! Think of the profound dismay of archeologists deciphering that DNA they discover in 2501. That is, if AI still permits cultural exploration.

The Answer:

Well, number one far and away -- if you're not in love then you just aren’t writing songs. Love is the dominant word in song writing. Next is feel, like feeling love is what the world is all about. Yeah, it is! And “yeah: is next believe it or not. Other most prominent are girl, heart, take, life, back, never, die, away, give, time, night, day, man, dream, world, little. You got that? Ok, now write your own little song. Or ask that AI think to fo it. Bonus: The 1960 movie Exodus was a good one. It starred Paul Newman, Eva Marie Saint, Sal Mineo, Sir Ralph Richardson, Peter Lawford, Lee J, Cobb and John Derek. And a lot more.

So now you know it is love, but do you know what love is?
