Empty harbors.

Today's Tids Issue 5,415

Hearts go on:

Well, there goes the nest egg planning program down the tube again. Powerball grows higher to $760 Million after no wins last night. Do you think people would be unhappy winning $30.4 Million if the jackpot was divided into 25 pots? They'd be close to being equal to a good baseball player.

The TPL writes to say he just got a shot for Shingles, and to be safe he had another for vinyl siding.

A lot of media just hates the truth form candidates because it tends to undermine their agendas.

I love how quiet my town is around this time of year.

The Question:

Who were Auguste and Louis Lumiere?

The Headlines:

--Stock Markets Approaching Rarified Territory; Short Sellers Lost $178 Billion for the Year.

--Israel Tanks Push Deeper into Gaza Town

--Ramaswamy Stops Spending on TV Ads.

--Media Filling Slow News days with Political Inuendo.

China's giant phone maker Xiaome just introduced its first Electric Car. The Company says it intends to become the largest auto maker in the world. My humble opinion is that the more China focus on economic dominance of the world, the less likely they will want to get involved in a shooting war.

The fear of global warming, or whatever they are calling it these days, is breeding insanity. A new RI law says that all existing and new parking lots in the state must “expand” by 50% to accommodate designated spaces for EV’s and charging stations. How does an existing parking lot expand when there is no available land around it. And that is just concern number one.

I've gone through a lot of tunes while writing about the years of my life in tis Tids thing and most are either about crying myself to sleep because I done you wrong and you left me, or I will love you till the end of my life because of all the things you are.

This could be an exciting TidsPickin’ week. Not necessarily an easy winner for our grizzled, beaten down crew of star gazers, but exciting to be involved with. Lart week we dwindled a bit again to 9-7 bringing us to 144-95 which still has us hanging above 60%. A lit of games count this week with some that count being severely mysterious from a picker's point of view. The ones that count that are probably easy to pick are Cleveland over the pesky Jets, Tonight's Amazon Prime game, and Philly over woeful Arizona. The really big sexy games are Detroit-Dallas, Miami-Baltimore, and perhaps KC and Cincy. Detroit is lke the girl who could be very good but when she was bad... you know the tale. Dallas is at home and plays well there. This is a lump in the throat pick, but I'll go Dallas. An even tougher big game pick is Baltimore coming off a featured game of the week a last week against its major AFC foe this Week, the Dolphins who also rose to the occasion in another national feature game. I'm picking Baltimore. Cincy is still moderately alive, and KC is vulnerable and needs this win badly. They will get it.

Onward ot some other weird games in the tough meaningful pick category. Ok, there are seven teams in each conference still in the Wild Card race. And nobody, Atlanta, NO and TB, seems ot want the NFC South title. Atlanta rose up last week and I believe will again this week to beat da Bears. But unfortunately, TB is actually like a real team under Mayfield as QB and they will stay ahead. Beatng NO who will fall behind te other two. Both those games could go either way. I’m not kidding. Similarly, the AFC South has three teams tied – Jax, Indy, Houston – with nobody lately surging, Jax had it but has faded. They must and should beat Carolina. Houston was a amazing for a while but also is now struggling. But Stroud is back, and they should beat a tough Titans team. Indy blew it last week and now face a surprisingly hot Raiders team. Ill pick the Raiders. Of te rest, the Rams need a win to stay in the hunt and they will get it against the Giants. BTW, they benched media darling and fan favorite DeVito. Likewise, Seattle is right there with the Rams in the wild card spot and will find a way to beat PItt. Denver and Minn have a mini chance to move froward but slim is the word. Denver will stay alive beating the Chargers but Minn will go down ot the Pack... despite a great game by Jefferson. Then here is Buffalo marching to the playoffs with only my beloveds between them and another step forward. Ther eis no way the Bllls will lose two to the Pats, but I will root for them and it wiill be close.  And finally, San Fran will beat the woeful Commanders. But, what is the status of Brock Purdy in te mind of Shanahan as aSB winning QB. Thst;s the big quesiton tis week.

I reviewed that new Netflix move, “Leave the World Behind” a couple of days ago, and I just learned it was an “Obama” produced movie, whatever that means. Now I should watch it again for hidden agendas. But it isn’t worth watching twice.

Maybe I could come up with “Tids TV” -- the ultimate segmented streaming channel designed for rational, sensible people.

One day you feel the rhythm of halyard's clanging on masts and the next day it seems you see but rippling waters in empty harbors. Things change.

I friend of mine who was living and working in Italy in 1988 wrote to say it was a scary time there then with Ghaddafi proposing death to all Americans. But te little story he sent that really moved me was about a client of his from Philadelphia who he met for a business discussion in his Italian office. As he left the meeting, the client said he was flying home the next day for a surprise visit for a big family birthday party. He flew on Pan Am 103. One day... and...

The Magnificent Seven – Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Nvidia, Alphabet, Meta and Tesa -- are still driving the S&P. That means covering up some also-rans. The big fear is now tata rush ot profit taking among these winners of the year ma y setback teh positive outlooks for the major indices.

BTW, on politicians telling the truth, Gov Abbot of Texas is telling the truth about illegal immigration to the world by shipping unlawful entrants to big northern cities. Chaos in America from disregarding immigration rules is not a small problem. And in case you haven’t noticed we already have immigration laws on the books. We don't need new immigration law, we jsut need leaders with guts.

The state drinking least amount of beer/capita is Utah. The next in teh lest category are Conn, NJ and NY Tied, Maryland, Kentucky (Can you say Bourbon), Washington, Cal, Georgia, Indiana and a tie for tenth least between Mass and Tenn. (Rhody is next on the least charts.) The top ten Beer drinking states are #1 North Dakota followed by New Hampshire, Montana, Wisconsin, Nevada, Vermont, Nebraska, Texas and #10, Maine. Interesting, the 3 south New England states are on the least list and the three in the North are on the most list. How come you can’t get into a local brewery beer garden here over the wekend.

The Answer:

Lumiere sounds like Lumens which is necessary for cool light sources like the first ever Motion Picture in history... The two Brothers living near where theyy were born in France are considered the movie industry pioneers for inventing the “Cinematographe” the projection system which became the standard that led to the growth for today's movie industry. Ihope they had better scripts. The first movie was “Workers leaving the Lumiere Factory”. Maybe Netflix could revive that one.

I think I’ll just step off my soapbox and think about something pleasant:
