Simplicity and sensibility

Today's Tids Issue 5,461

A pleasant spice:

I just washed my Kelly-Green Fleece for the big Parade. Yes, it is March a month that many always want to feel like spring but too often doesn't. But you do feel differences in your environment as days grow longer, and in the palpitations of hearts of NCAA March Madness lovers. Yes, March is kind of the Freedom month when you feel like you are escaping from something. When the grey begins to look a little brighter and there is a stirring of busy creatures coming alive beneath your feet; beginning the annual ritual that will soon produce an array of colors bursting around you. And there are the delightful sounds of baseball, The crack of the bats and balls pounding into leather gloves. And cheers as balls soar through the air. March is quite the month, the coming alive again month. Enjoy it.

From the Tids Punster Laureate: "When a fish says good night in the South Pacific, is that Salmon Chanting Evening?”

The good Shepard, a Netflix movie Starring Matt Daman and a slew of H-Wood A-listers is well produced movie about the beginnings of the CIA during WWIII. The opening riveting scene is of the failure of Bay of Pigs, and it flashes back to follow the life of a young Yale Graduate and what he gave up in life and character get to the top of the heap. I like it. It is paced like a LeCarre movie.

The Question:

Where does saffron come from, and what does it cost per ounce?

Bally's has a new virtual lifelike online gambling option which means a gambler never has to leave his house to lose his m home.

It appears the New York Community Bank from Long Island which specializes in commercial real-estate is in big trouble today. The CEO resigned in the wake of the stock plummeting 27% after they took a $2.7 Billion write-down loss. My idea is for them to finance Trumps his $454 hundred million needed to play the appeal game. With that they would be forced to declare bankruptcy. In rides Joe Biden with a giant bailout chick. Bingo, everybody wins except the taxpayer. Sound silly? Well sure. But not necessarily sillier than a lot of financial real-life situations.

“Merch” is the new commercial phenomena designed to dip into fans wallet to pay for promoting faces, companies or products. Why would I ever give up my “Best Granddad” coffee cup for a “Dr. Phil cooer or Mark Consuelos Water Bottle. Why would I even buy a water bottle in the first place? What a great gimmick getting people to pay you so they can become your advertising medium.

We’re kind of proud around here for our Rhode Island College Womens 27-0 basketball team sitting at #3 in the NCAA Div III rankings just behind NYU and Transylvania and ahead of Christorpher Newport, Gustavus Adolphis, Scranton, Wartung, Bowdoin, UW-Whitewater and Hardin Simmons. they think they can win it all in the Tourney.

Gambling is just everywhere it seems, and the digital world may make it more pervasive than ever, and tougher for gamblers to walk away profitably even more difficult. If they ever have. Steve Wynn the Billionaire Las Vegas casino owner once said he has never known, in his entire life, a gambler who comes into his casino, and wins big and walks away? “In other words, casinos win not just because the house has a built-in statistical edge over the gambler, but that it’s also very challenging to decide to quit when the money is flowing your way.” says Wynn. In an interview, Wynn echoed a familiar phrase: “The only way to win in a casino is to own one.”

Too many people don't want to believe the truth. It is an innate problem in societies.

A good friend observes that if fast food places go to surge pricing Bernie Sanders and pals will propose surge minimum wages.

The Answer:

Saffron comes from the stigmas of Crocus Sativas, a flowering plant in the iris family with bright purple petals that’s also known as “saffron crocus” or “autumn crocus.” (Note, the Autumn Crocus is poisonous so don't try to make tis hat home. It costs $10-$20 per gram because it requires intensive hand labor and thousands of flowers to produce an ounce. It's the key to unlocking the brilliant golden color of classic dishes such as bouillabaisse, risotto all a Milanese, and Spanish paella. It is a Persian delicacy as Iran is the world's largest producer.

Have a great weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
