Love is important

Today's Tids Issue 5,138

April is Good:

I think today we saw icicles forming on the heads of the Russian delegation to the UN Security Council, minds frozen to reality as Zelensky lays bare the atrocities against defenseless fellow human beings. I would have liked to have seen Putin’s henchmen squirm, but amoral deniers to don’t squirm.

“The greatest pleasure of life is love.” --Euripides

Hyperbolic Headline of the day:

“This Year's Masters is all about Tiger.” Tell that to the other great golfers looking to win this thing. Tiger has just said that it looks like he will tee off Thursday. And if he does, the cameras will be all over that great golfer to the exclusion of many other great golfers fighting the odds to win that coveted championship. That's the problem with celebrity sports promotion, we often lose the grit in the backstory..

The Question:

Who did Pocahontas marry and what was the name of her father?

“Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity.” --Henry Van Dyke

Cinderella days are done in March Madness, but who are bookies picking as potential surprise winners in the Masters. Here’s a bunch – Will Zalatoris, Cameron Champ, Tom Hoge, Max Homa, Lee Westwood, Billy Horschel, Danny Willet, Sewart Cink, Luke list, Tony Finau, and Cameron Young.

The Top Ten favorites for the Masters are Jon Rahm 10-1, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith, Scottie Sheffler, Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Victor Hovland and Colin Morikawa 20-1. Scheffler and Smith are the hottest twosome coming in here, but I'm keeping an eye on Victor Hovland. Tiger Woods is at 50-1. How about that, 3 players named Cameron. What are the odds one of them will win? Wanna bet there’s a Cameron pool out there somewhere.

Today is National Deep-Dish Pizza Day. Sorry Chicagoans, I don’t like it. I look at it and gain 20 pounds.

After all these years of ACA we see that the bucket of money has grown which only means that fewer people are paying less attention on how it is spent. When people paid for their own health care, they knew where every penny went. So far, the insurance companies love it as Medicare annual premiums have more than doubled to $2,3 Trillion+ and Medicaid more than tripled to $2.2 Trillion. More people insured at some level, but fewer people are fully insured than ten years ago. And the government itself has another nice big agency.

In case you need a scorecard, Russia has lost 18,500 troops, 150 planes, 134 Helicopters, 676 Tanks, 1,322 Vehicles, 76 Fuel Tanks, 1,865 Armored Personnel Carriers and 4 Mobile SRBN Systems. The Ukraine Army is showing it’s mettle and is very smart and well organized under some very capable generals.

We were eating the other evening at a small golf club in South County here when two school buses and a couple of cars pulled up. Our waiter told us they were URI students here for their annual Student Senate banquet. Somebody at our table asked why they were sitting in the buses for so long, The waiter answered, “They can’t come in until the police get here”! What is happening to our society?

The Answer:

Pocahontas married John Rolfe. Many people think it was John Smith, Her father was Chief Powhatan, paramount chief of Tsenacommacah.

“If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there.” --Lewis Carroll

Thank you, Louis. That is the quote for writers without a plot.
