Enemies regardless

Today's Tids Issue 5,160

Free and easy:

I guess today is a good day for a taco. If you like tacos. I don’t eat corned beef and cabbage on St. Pat’s Day either.

I’d like to see more of war strategy/progress maps in addition to videos of Ukraine’s rubble. It's hard to determine whether Ukraine or Russia is making the most progress, having the most success. From the rubble visuals and reports of lost lives, it looks like Russia is racing through that country. But that's not what they are a saying. Give us some facts instead of just the trauma.

Cinco de Mayo is nacho average holiday.

Basically, yesterday Powell said we are going to hit you with a softer hammer and the Wall Street denizens went crazy.

The Question:

Current Jeopardy Champ Mattea Roach has moved up among the all-time consecutive win leaders, In what all time consecutive win position is she and who are ahead of her?

The Headlines:

--Powell Brings A little Glee To The Hearts Of Investors; Markets Soar I Late Wednesday, But Project Lower This Morning.

--Congressional Dem Leadership Promising Votes On Abortion Rights; Odds For Success Low.

--Bank Of England Hikes Rates To 13 Year High As Inflation Hits 10.

BBC Says Worlds True Death Toll Form Covid Is 15 Million.

--Senator Kennedy Grills Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas On His Apparent Absence of Knowledge About Past Actions Hiring of "Ministry of Truth” Department Head Nina Jankowiocz.

--Russia Wealthy Fleeing To New Safe Harbor In Dubai To Avoid Sanctions.

Today is National Cartoonist (Comic Strip Maker Day) and I think them all for helping me begin my day with a smile on my face. The absence of comics is the reason NY Times readers are so grumpy.

I’m loving the lightness and brightness of current 23 game Jeopardy champ Mattea Roach. I have not seen too many contestants play the game with as much apparent fun as she sems to be having. And she makes me and others smile.

The good news is that Wordle will not accept a bad typo. The bad news is my convulsive brain will find a way to miss a key ingredient.

Little known fact: Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico Of course the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank, and the great ship never made it to New York, much less Mexico. The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day – Sinco De mayo.

I know that is true. I tell that story every year, and somebody wants to believe it. If went out over twitter it would be carved-in-stone history in nanoseconds.

I still remember the first time somebody said “Google” to me. How odd am I?

It’s not just people mugging people in the streets... athletes seem to be doing it more on a regular basis, I guess millions of dollars a year doesn't make you civilized.

There many concerns and issues on both sides of the discussion on abortion, and one critical issue is whether it comes under federal government or state jurisdiction. In fact, I look at almost all issues from that viewpoint. The more we move away from states' rights to federal over lording, the more the people lose the power they were endowed with by the Constitution.

RI has no fur farms, yet RI legislators want to pass a law to crack down on them. This is just one more example of why average citizens finds politicians so implausible.

This morning I see the financial news is saying that the futures are down now that Wall Street is reassessing the Powell statement of yesterday. And I always thought the wild moves on wall street were the result of considered reasoned actions of professional investors. Silly me.

The Answer:

Congenial, easy to like Mattea is now fifth all time consecutive wins champ at 23. The only players ahead of her are Ken Jennings, Amy Schneider, James Holzheimer and Matt Amodeo. She just seems pleasantly flabbergasted and loving having fun.

All of a sudden in just the past couple of years Jeopardy has produced the most historic consecutive winners. Does Covid make people smarter? Or do new generations just stay home and google all day long. Or did Alex make past players nervous.
