Misdirection.

Today's Tids Issue 5.173

What Heat:

Something seems wrong about America when you have to fly in baby food from Europe. Maybe we lost a war, and I didn’t know it. Maybe we are losing self-determination and independence. Maybe we have lost common sense for any number of reasons.

There is a very interesting, possible precedent setting trial looming. Apparently, a man in a self-driving Tesla has been indicted for murder for allowing his car to race through an intersection smash into a car legally there and killing the occupant of that car. It seems it is all about personal responsibility. Cars do not drive radically, even semi guided cars. People do. The case is basically asking, do inanimate objects operate independently of humans. Or are humans always responsible for the actions of their inanimate objects. Personal responsibility is fading faster than baby food and gasoline in America,

Helpful hint, Department:

Among many things that aren’t as good as they used to be is Mulch. Yes, mulch delivered by mulch munchkins or picked up in bags at a big DYI store, may be loaded with termites. Nothing like bringing home bags of termites to spread around your foundation. Beware.

The Question:

What evil twosome was shot to death in Bienville Parish Louisiana?

Palpitations is an interesting word. It can mean, See your doctor immediately, you have a heart problem. Or it could mean it’s that feeling oyu get when you’re in love. Your palms sweat. your knees get weak, and your heart feels like it might leap out of your chest, It happens because your brain sends a signal to your adrenal glands which release hormones that trigger physical responses to love. I wonder if Medicare plays for love.

Sometimes Cesar Franc sounds like Anton Dvorak. Not that they could have plagiarized each other form the internet.

The state of Georgia just announced that a huge $5.8 Billion Hyundai EV manufacturing plant will be built there outside Savanna. Unfortunately, “huge” and Rhode Island do not go well together. What also doesn’t go with business js high energy costs. Business and especially manufacturers just really, really hate high energy prices, and RI is highest in the nation in that., In fact, the only new manufacturing plant of note in RI are those that manufacture products that produce inefficient energy. I think we are in a bad rut.

“I rang up the telephone company and said: ‘I want to report a nuisance caller.’ He said: ‘Not you again.’” – Tim Vine

I watched the Dave Carlin Bio on HBO last night and while I have always loved his uses of words, the only real concerns a i felt while watching were for his wife Brenda.

Is it me or is saltwater taffy making a comeback. When I was young it was summer e seaside staple. It always just seemed like fun

Yesterday I walked up the hill for a mile or so to buy Icy-Hot to rub on my aching legs when I got home.

A guy who taught a bird to talk dirty was arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a myna. (Thanks to “Mother Goose and..." Creator Mike Peters.)

There are lot of great violin concertos but the concerto by Max Bruch may be just the most melodic of them all. There are some passages that just make you stop and dream.

The Preakness needs more horses. Saturday's race was a lot of fun to watch. You had to love the genuine emotions of the Jockey at the end.

Speaking of horses, derby winner Strike Rich owners said it needed more rest. Most trainers are now lobbying for three weeks between big events. Yet the great Citation ran every four days. Years ago it was about stamina I guess, Today it is about breakneck sprinting. But if that is the case how come more horses don’t run in the shorter Preakness.

One nice thing about egotists: they don't talk about other people.

I think one of the big problems in America is this rush to change the rules when something does go somebody's or some group's way. Political groups and sports teams are particularly vulnerable to this weakness. The preferred idea is trying to figure out how to contribute or win playing within the rules.

Froma Harrup, a columnist with whom I rarely agree had a good column today. It was about slobbism, the much too casual dressing down takeover of decorum. Dressing well actually shows respect for others. Remember ithers? By the way, she says dress codes initiated by private businesses are perfectly legal. Rights come with responsibilities.

US corporations have been given the right to operate in a free enterprise society, in an efficient capitalist system, but with its should understand their responsibility to the citizens of the country who allow them sot operate so freely. It’s when they shirk their responsibility to the people who have endowed them is when regulations creep in.

“If God had written the Bible, the first line should have been, ‘It’s round.’” – Eddie Izzard
