No App-etite.

Today's Tids Issue 5.172

Subversion is annoying:

This new “Parking App” coming to our town and towns and across the country, could become the single biggest act of big brotherism yet inflicted on citizens by governments. And be sure, this is a government app. And nobody in towns across the country remembers town leaders explaining the ramifications of it with regards to privacy.

I love the buzz around garden centers this time of year. And I’m not talking bees.

Today is National Pick Strawberries Day. People will be happy. Personally, I don’t like the taste or aroma of a strawberry, but they look nice on a dessert plate.

The Questions:

How do “free” Apps make money?

The Headlines:

--Dow, S&P Up A Hair; S Nasdaq Down A Whisker; S&P Hits Bear Market Territory.

---NCAA Seeing More Direct Payments Than NIL; Expect Stiffer Regulations.

--2 Killed, 7Injured In Northside Chicago McDonalds Shooting.

--Es ast Cist Expecting Serious Heat For Weekend.

--Princeton Set To Fire Professor Joshua Katz After He Criticizes School’s “Woke” Politics.

People don’t develop apps out of kindness. They develop them to make money.

We have representatives for our Town in the RI Legislature and Senate. And they keep on getting elected. So, they must be doing something for somebody. But how come we have the worst state roads in the state on our island. I always thought keeping roads safe and drivable were pretty basic government services. Unfortunately, it seems that local reps are too influenced by national issues.

I hear that the Downton Abby Movie is worth the time.

Breaking News:

On resourceful reader sends in this scoop: “Elon Musk has made an offer to purchase the FBI for $100 Billion. No word yet if the Clintons are ready to sell.”

Another good reader writes to ask this question: “Is there currently any bigger waste of time, energy, money, molecules and media reporting than the Depp-Heard farcical trial?

Readers are wild today: An alliance of US, Canada and Mexico oil and gas would put us in a powerful dominant position and look what it would do for our balance of payments.

A woman said to me today that we have to do something about the Supreme court because they have just become too political. Odd. Thats w exactly what Repubs said about the left leaning Supreme Court in the 1970s. Nothing ever changes. it just gets worn out and rehabbed. I don’t even listen to spurious arguments anymore. There are just too many of them.

The Answer:

Apps make money by views of and clicks on ads. Next we have the new “Freemuium” app with limited services that ask for payments for really cool things that users always want. Another is referral marketing (I.e. In copy other product links.). Subscription fees from services provided by the free app. Email marketing using captured subscriber information. Ecommerce. Fpr instance, Angry Birds made a lot of money selling Plush birds and related stuff like T-Shirts. And apps for Crowd funding make money by taking a cut of the money raise. And more and more apps make money selling user data. There is no such thing as a free lunch.

Have a great weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!
