Freaking Awesome.

Today's Tids Issue 5,275

Yoo-Hoo, Efficiency expert needed:

If you want to feel awe, think about that US rocket traveling at 14,000 miles per hour hitting a small asteroid in orbit 7 million miles away... after a year in flight. Now despite the hyperbolic elation of many a public relations denizens overusing the word “historic”, that truly is historic. And any other number of superlatives you would want ot attach to it. And few Zowies and yikes too!

A great reader suggested that in the interest of remaining relevant to society that I should sign off with my identity pronouns. Ok. I’m going with it, what, why. A grammarian will write to say that why and what aren’t pronouns. I respond by saying, anything goes today.

In case you haven’t noticed after 5,275 issues, contrarianism and sarcasm combined with touch of humor are the backbone of the Tids. And of course, a little love along the way.

It’s fun to wake up in the morning like this seeing a little love form the stock Market. But we know that love often doesn’t last forever.

The Question:

Who was Otto Lilienthal?

The Headlines:

--Markets Open Higher4 Fed Says It Doesn't See US Labor Market Heading Into “Recession-Like Conditions.

--Hurricane Ian Hits Cuba As A Cat 3: Excpeted To Gain Power And Wreak Havoc On Western Mid Florida.

--Alleged Leaks To Russia Gas Pipeline Threatened Stability Of European Energy; Bubbles In Balck Sea Over Pipeline Bring Suggestions Of Sabotage.

--Biden Student Loan Forgiveness Program To Cost $400 Billion

Every once in a while, I need to remind myself that the essence of playing golf well is always playing to your own capabilities. I gueess life in genral is a little like that too.

I don’t believe I have seen a so many injuries to NFL star heroes than I have so early this year. Maybe they need more than the Powder Puff training camps they’ve had this year.

Based on past experience with government largess, it is expected tat the College Loan Forgiveness program will have colleges and universities raising the tuition. It’s the old big pile of dough principle. And peoepl will buy into higher tuitions figuring they won't have to pay it back. What kind of society is that?

“Credential Inflation” is new phrase being popularized as more and more people stay in college longer or go to s to for profit institutions to become credentialed in their vocations. It is obviously promoted by post-college education facilities. The emergence of Faux colleges contributes to the pressure to become credentialed beyond where necessary. Many institutions and businesses require advanced certificates, degrees merely to get promoted. To restrict access to certain jobs, not just to train for them; this is a form of “social closure” that assures in-groups and out-groups. The overzealous pursuit of credentials as for its own sake is called "Diploma Disease”. Obviously, there many credentialed people who are so to provide confidence to consumers being dealt with honestly by well-informed up to date providers of a service. And of course, advanced degrees in the technical fields are certainly meaningful additional educational necessities.

If I need to enhance my knowledge credentials, I just google it.

The official definitions of Credential Inflation is: “The tendency to require ever-increasing, often unnecessary, levels of education or qualifications (e.g., certificates, degrees and diplomas for a specific job.”

Scary, Department:

Dmitry Medvedev, a former president who now serves as deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, said Russia had the right to defend itself with nuclear weapons if it is pushed beyond its limits and that this is "certainly not a bluff". He added that “the U.S.-led NATO military alliance would be too scared of a 'nuclear apocalypse' to directly enter the conflict in response.” And I worry about my sore toenail.

The Answer:

Otto was a German scientist who was genuine pioneer in aviation. He was considered the “Flying Man” as he He was the first person to make well-documented, repeated, successful flights with gliders therefore making the idea of "Heavier than air” a reality. Newspapers and magazines published photographs of Lilienthal gliding, favorably influencing public and scientific opinion about the possibility of flying machines becoming practical.

If you cry when cutting onions, are you forming an emotional bond? Will you find it difficult caramelizing them.

Life is full of conflicts.

But, none so difficult as trying to figure out the best way to buy a new car with these growing interest rates.

Tids advice of the day. Don’t get upset if you are asked where something is in Target when you choose to wear a red shirt and khakis to shop.
