I listen to the music.

Today's Tids Issue 5,294

LOL😂:

"Writing always means hiding something in such a way that it then is discovered". -- Italo Calvino

I wish I was smart enough to think of something like that, but that came from a good friend who particularly likes the name of the author of it.

Has Kim lost his mind? Again? Or maybe his aggressiveness is just part of that growing cabal, the new axis, that enigmatic, confounding, irrational quixotic quartet known as China, Russia, Iran and North Korea.

If I ever lost my eyesight, I would still see the beauty of the world, that smiles upon faces of loved ones near, in the music that I hear.

The Question:

People for decades have been going to NYC’s Times Square to read the news on the giant electronic signboard. In what year were the results of a presidential election first announced? Who were the winner and loser. Bonus: What are the five largest countries in Europe by area?

The Headlines:

--America Preparing To Vote Tomorrow.

--Dow Up, Nasdaq Off Early, But Both Power Up In Late PM; Facebook to Lay Off Employees as Meta Investment Costs Increase.

--Tropical Storm Nicole Prompts Hurricane Watch In Florida.

--Russian Oligarch Yevgeny Prigozhin Says Russia Interfering In Elections.

A good friend reminded me that kids as old as 20 may think that Americans have always been toxic to and angry at each other. Yet as far back as I can remember until this modern, enlightened age we always got along pretty well even when there were significant differences.

The College Football Championship rankings committee certainly blew it last week with their first poll of the year that dropped Georgia to 3rd in favor of Tennessee. I thought it quite strange at the time, If don’t remember it was Tenn, Ohio State, Ga and Clemson. As you probably know now that Georgia crushed Tennessee Saturday. Notre Dame made Clemson appear inept, and to add another, wrinkle preseason favorite Alabama lost to LSU. Georgia looked unbeatable but maybe that was because the committee gave them such a great incentive. BYW, it was gutsy call by LSU coach Kelley to go for two for a win instead of playing for the tie. So now Alabama is maybe dropping out of the top ten. But what happens if the tide turns and they make the SEC playoffs and win it all. How topsy-turvy will those rankings be then. A 12-team national playoff can’t come too soon.

There is music I hear that feels like the sun is completely filling up the skies with a beauty and radiant awe almost to unbelievable to imagine. But I let it consume me as often as I can so to enjoy the magnificence of the world around us.

Yesterday I vowed I would vote against any candidate who ran negative political commercials during NFL games.

And then there are things like the shoplifting shooting in Maryland. This is a sad tale of a store security guard confronting a woman who was obviously stealing. There was certainly no doubt of some guilt when she reached into her backpack to pull out a revolver to shoot the guard. But as he was going down, he managed to shoot her, at least protecting other possible victims in the store. The guard and the woman both died. How do we resolve all the beauty of life with the ugliness that betrays it.  That is the real question today, and in any election.

Or, how about the woman this weekend dining at a Ruth Chris who didn’t like the way a man at another table was arguing with the waiter. She took her steak knife and stabbed him in the back. BTW, the woman and her friend left amidst the confusion and didn't pay the bill. What has happened to civilization.

What ever happened to moral codes?

I hear that it took a day and a half to turn back the Stonehenge sunray time system when Daylight Savings Time ended Sunday.

Regardless of mere or less sun. I still do the same thing every day.

Always remember you are unique just like everybody else.

I have a new Idea for a Podcast. I'll gather together all the best laughing friends I know. And we’ll just tell each other dumb jokes and continuously LOL. And people can tune in any time when feeling a bit low and become immediately infected with riant laughter. How great is that for the soul? Or maybe even the salvation of humanity.

I kind of have to chuckle a bit over these big Trump, Biden and Obama rallies held over the weekend and today. I suspect that everybody attending is already voting for the people being pushed by the speakers. It’s just a show. The media loves it.

The Answer:

Herbert Hoover’s victory over Al Smith was the first presidential election day result announced over the new Whiz-Bang NYT’s electric sign. That campaign may have had vitriol similar to today as Smith was a dreaded Catholic. Bonus: The largest area country in Europe is Russia. Next Is Ukraine followed by France, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Finland, Poland, Italy, United Kingdom, Romania, Kazakhstan, Greece, Bulgaria, Iceland, Hungary, Portugal and Serbia.

“Somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note, it said ‘Parking Fine’.” HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH...Haha -- Feeling better yet?
