One thing about this question is that the answer never changes. But today, with all of the historical revisionism going on you never know. Harvard is the oldest followed by William & Mary, St, John’s College (Annapolis, Md), Yale, Washington College (Chestertown Md), U Pennsylvania, Moravian College (Bethlehem Pa), University of Delaware, Princeton Washington and Lee, and Columbia. (Note: Moravian was the first college in America to educate Women, as well as Native Americans in their own language.
I went to college in walking distance of Moravian College. One of the big events of my freshman year was when hundreds of students from all male Lehigh went on a “panty raid” to that small insular all female college. Noting happened. But it was a nice night for a boisterous walk through the city. Remember Panty raids. Who says yeh 1950’s wasn’t wild and crazy?
82 Years ago today, the Great Kate Smith introduced “God Bless America”. I thought it a nice way to prepare for tomorrow.
