A better America.

Today's Tids Issue 5,346

Somehow, some way:

Meanwhile, the Congress is playing with our financial lives in their attempt to make a political statement. Everybody wants to get into the act about whether or not to shut down the government., Hey we got it and it is much too big, but we got to keep it moving with the hopes that someday we will wake up and finally elect people who en masse agree and shout Enough!  After it is too late. But right now, our economic stability boils down to the whims of politicians trying to position themselves for the next elections

I believe one of the more despicable classes of human beings is looters.

The optimist sees the glass half full. The pessimist sees the glass half empty. The chemist sees the glass completely full, half with liquid and half with air.

The Question:

I have enjoyed Jane Ausitn books. And it seems her stories and characters have inspired many a TV show. So, if Jane had a TV, what shows do you think she would watch?

The Headlines:

--Missile Strikes Crimea HQ of Russia’s Black Sea Navy.

--McConnell Urges McCarthy and House to Get Over Bickering and avoid Shutdown; Not Good for Country, He Says.

--Stocks Need Major Boost to Avoid Worst Week Since March; Bond Guys Running as Risk Aversion Heightens,

--Senator Robert Menendez and Wife Indicted on Bribery Charges.

--LA Judge Strikes Down Biden Admin Restrictions on Drilling in Gulf of Mexico.

Typically, September gives us a good idea about the mood on Wall Street. So far the mood is blue. And I'm not liking that tune.

The Tids Punster Laureate writes to say, “One day I'm going to start a collection of highlighters. Mark my words!”

Hey, there are actually some good college football games on TV this Saturday. One of the most intriguing to me is Florida State versus Clemson, FSU is ranked #3 and Clemson is unranked. But this is a game ripe for a big upset as Clemson has always stashed away so really highly respected recruits. The national Glitz games will be Notre Dame against Ohio State, and I think that will be a good one. The other features spotlight hungry Sander’s Colorado team in their first real test against a strong Oregon team. Other games worth paying attention ot are Utah and UCLa and also Mississippi aganst bama. Is Bama that bad? Miss coudleb anotehr huge test.

So, Joe B yesterday said 500,000 unlawful entrants from Venezuela would eb able to saty here without fear of deportation. 500,000! Thats half the population of Rhode Island or Delaware and equal to the total population of Wyoming.  It is more than half of Vermont, North and South Dakota and Alaska. And those state governments are still trying to figure out how to govern their own masses after hundreds of years. Just to put it into perspective. The only solution is to build a gigantic wall. I wonder if anybody ever thought of that.

Doesn’t that story about the pilot who ejected from the F-35 over SC sound a bit weird to you?

I have to believe that last night the most often asked question on Google was, where else can you watch Thursday Night Football other than Amazon Prime. But, alas, it turns out that Amazon has tied up Thursday viewing completely. Rats.

The year is 1941. And it is the year the USA had to join the war. Nobody forgets December 7th and the sneak attack by Japan that killed so may innocents on a quiet Sunday morning. Elsewhere in the war Rommel started to move through Africa and Germany began a not so hot idea of invading Russia. The “Enigma Code” was broken. Good news. Orson Wells bought us the great movie Citizen Kane, and Glenn Miller’s Chatanooga Choo-Choo was the rage. And Dumbo flew through the air on his flappable ears. Willy introduced the venerable Jeep. The USO is formed and rally's the celebs together for the good of the troops, Roosevelt signs the GI Bill of Rights. Average wages were $1750/year and the monthly average rent was $32. Chubby Checker, Paul Anka, Paul Simon, Joan Baez, Art Garfinkle, Martha Stewart and Dick Cheney were born as were many other of the great s musical star s of the Rock and Roll SixtiesHow Ironic, in the midst of the killing fields the music was born.,

Key Chinese officials are vanishing. Well, that seems par for the course in China. But in this case most of them are Xi pals. What me worry!

The Answer:

Number one would be Downton Abbey. Jane might also enjoy Gilmore Girls, New Girl, Bridgerton, Cougar Town, Sanditon, Selfie, Veronica Mars, You're the Worst and Sex Education. Yeah, I guess.

Have a great weekend, E-v-e-r-y-b-o-d-y!!

Glenn Miller joined the military to don the uniform to entertain troops. On December 15, 1944, his plane took off from England for a trip to Fance to bring a little of his music to the guys and gals there. It vanished over the channel. Nobody has ever found out why nor have any signs of the plane have ever been found. Miller was one of a kind.
