Taking it for granted.

Today's Tids Issue 5.488

Filled with Music:

I still remember being amazed the first time I held an iPad in my hands. It was quite cool.

To back up that statement yesterday about how much music envelops the brain like no other activity of human existence, Harvard medical has an extensive report combining real facts with intelligent conjecture that confirms clearly the brightness of the brain as a result of plying. Did you ask your brain to make your foot tap... or was it the music taking over your senses?

It seems my healthy food habits go way back to the years when I was a devoted of Gin and Tonic. This was not a frivolous indulgence. The drink was conceived in the reality of life and death. It is the innovation of 18th century British sailors. First, to prolong the availability of Gin on long voyages they added high quinine content tonic. Second, the Quinine is very effective in preventing malaria. To resist the onset of dreaded scurvy they added a squeeze of lime. (Note: A ships chandler named Lachlan Rose developed the process for preserving Lim Juice in 1865. Note 2: Terry Lennox tells Phillip Marlowe in a 1953 Raymond Chandler Novel “The Last Goodbye, that the better than a Martini is a Gimlet which is Half Roses and half Gin.) So, there you have it, how a health food promoted in a pop novel became a cultural phenomenon. I always loved eating healthy.

I think it befuddles me how people don't seem to appreciate what it takes to give them the simple necessities of life.

The Question:

What were the original Las Vegas Casinos?

What's with the LSU Women’s Basketball team skipping out on the National Anthem prior to what became the most watched Women's ab basketball game of all time. Isn’t America fractured enough?

Time to take a walk in the rain to buy a Powerball Ticket.

Last night the TV drama series NCIS had a story about Drones that thought for themselves. In years past it may have been just the science fiction imagination of a writer. But today with AI it is a real scary possibility. Science Fiction seems ot be getting realer and realer. Time to find a cave.

By the way, I first time I saw the iPad was 10 years ago in May while sitting in a the Storrowtown Tavern at the Big E in Springfield M. Her I am remembering where I was when I first Held an iPad in my hands and most people now take them for granted. What have you done for us lately, Apple.

Only about 5% of RI voters turned out for the primary yesterday. It was reported that about 15% voted “Not Committed”. It seems to me that another 95% of all voters weren't committed either.

The Tropicana Hotel in LV opened 67 Years ago Tomorrow. It will now be razed for a baseball park. It is Iconic in a mobster kind of way. A few weeks after that opening, NY Mobster Frank Costello was shot in the head. He survived, but police found a\a note in his pocket showing Tropicana earnings and a plan for skimming for his   big crime associates. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, unless it is on a note in a monster's pocket.

When will Fan Duel or Draft Kings buy Las Vegas?

You had to take your hat off to Mike Lindell as he built out of nothing his successful My Pillow Company. But then he became thick headed.

The Answer:

The first casinos began operation on Fremont Street as early as 1906. But the birth of big money glitzy LV began with the First casino that opened on the strip -- El Rancho Vegas. Next came Bugsy Siegle who brought the world The Flamingo. It was mob centric and was lavish and for the first time brought IEntertainment to complete the pleasure package. Next were The Sands and the Frontier. A guy named Binion watched the excitement over on the Stirp and pumped more lights on Fremont Street with the high waging, only gambling Horsehoe. But Bugsy got the strip going, though his initial partner with the Flamingo idea, Billy Wilkerson, thought it wiser to skip town and hide in Paris.

A dreamy April,
