Confused Covid Communications

Today's Tids Issue 4,751

It looks like chaos to me:

Yesterday, Fed Chair Jerome Powel says more firmly than ever that the only way to keep the economy going is through stimulus packages. The President said no more stimulus until after the election.  Sounds like an economic impasse to me. Stock market analysts are very good at finding reasons to keep the market going, but they may have met their match with this incongruity. Nutty.

Whoops, early this morning Trump says House and Senate should immediately approve $25 Billion for Airline Payroll support and $135 Billion for Paycheck Protection For small biz. You just never know, do you. Must be the Remdesivir talking.

The fact is though, if I were President, I wouldn’t sign that money grab Pelosi stimulus package either. It’s crammed with stuff I would never want. It is typical political subterfuge, but in the past there would be at least some room for compromise. So, as the Tids has been saying for months. nobody is going to give the other side a win this close to elution, regardless if the people they work for need it.

You’ve heard of the glass half full, half empty people. But nobody ever talks about the people who know how easy it is to refill.

I have this urge to go outside and do a cartwheel, just to see if I can still do one. It’s always good to test yourself every once in a while. And doing something outrageous just sort of fits in with our new Covid society.

The Question:

What are the top five songs of Eddie Van Halen?

The Headlines:

--Dow Hits Highest Level In More Than A Month; Dow Up 530 Points; S&P, Nasdaq Strong; Trump Stimulus Tweeting Spurs Movement.

--Fed Continues To Make Case For Government Intervention In Economy.

--Delta Continues To Strengthen As It Moves Towards US Coast

--Veep Debate Tonight May Draw Strong Audience Looking For Sanity.

--Supreme Court Hearing $9 Billion Copyright Fight Between Oracle and Google.

Necessity, as they say has always been the mother of invention. Although, some of this tech wizardry is often giving us stuff we never thought we would ever need, and maybe would be better off without it (See “Social Dilemma”). Bat what I’m really talking about is the creativity of all these small businesses just trying to stay alive for another day. Restaurants in particular are delving deeply into the genius side of their brains to figure out how to stay moderately vibrant when it’s too cold for outdoor dining. I think we will be amazed at what we find in the months ahead. I Let’s hear it for all of those who never say die, never give up.

Senator Harris sems a bit more aggressive than the apparently placid VP Pence. Tis will be a contrast I styles for sure and souled be interesting to watch. And they may even try to differentiate each other through the issues. How unique. The press will pick Harris as the winner.

There’s a guy in town who walks around talking to himself using only figurative language. We call him the Village Idiom.

Major League Baseball TV ratings were down11% for this just past short season. But viewership was up 4%. My beloved Red Sox ratings were down 58%. I guess beloved doesn’t stay strong under the pain of a bad team. But I did stay true, which is what fans do in good times and bad.

BTW, there is a difference between TV ratings and Viewership. Ratings are based on sets tuned in while viewership is the number of people watching, just I case t you are interested.

I reader sends me a new medical analysis that has determined that while many survive Covid, docs are all too frustrated in their attempts to save anybody form the ravages of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

A couple of savvy wall street types say we do not want a stock market based on Trump tweeting. I agree.

The Answer:

Van Halen’s top five hits accruing to a panel of smart music folks are You really Got Me. Next is Jump followed by Unchained, Ain’t talking’ ‘bout Love, Beat it, Dance the Night Away, Right Now, Hot for Teacher, I’m the One, and #10 – Panama. There ‘ll be al lot of tributes for this fan favorite.

Waist if time: A belt made of watches. It really wasn’t worth reading all the way to the end, was it?

See you tomorrow. Sorry I’m so late. Must actually have found something productive to do.
