Preempting rational Thinking

Today's Tids Issue 4,747

Driving past the Dump:

October…already! What happened to September, The Summer, The Spring? I must have been floating on clouds to suddenly awaken to one of the most beautiful months of all! I, like you, love the colors and the noticeable change in the air. So, my suggestion would be to focus intently on God’s beauty because human malice could be far too intrusive for gentle hearts. And then there is topsy-turvy Covid reality that has diluted football and will probably disrupt Halloween even more. Though there are plenty of politicians to scare the living bejesus out of you. I love that in October we can celebrate Christopher Columbus and his courage at traveling into and across dark, forbidding, unknown seas to discover beautiful America. Yes, lets hope that America returns to being October. The amazing transitional month that encompasses the best of all seasons -- with an atmosphere that soothes; with new flowers that emerge as the magnificent trees settle into sleeping; when people seem happier at just being alive; when we don’t need AC or heating. There is balance in October which we should seek to achieve in all of life.

Happy 96th Birthday Jimmy Carter! A gentle man like October who keeps on giving.

To the person who invented infinity: Thanks for everything.

The Question:

Julie Andrews was certainly one of our all-time great performers. Name five of her most memorable performances in film or where ever her talent took her.

The Headlines:

--Jobless Claims Less Than Expected; Consumer Spending Slowed In August; Markets Steady But Moderate; Market Still Hoping For Stimulus.

--Moderna And Regeneron Gain In Positive Vovid-19 Test Results.

--Senate Panel Approves Issuing Subpoenas For CEOs of Facebook, Twitter And Google.

--Dems Investigating ACB Ties To “People of Praise”.

--Repubs Running Away From Trump Comments On Proud Boys.

--Chris Wallace Says Debate Was Missed Opportunity For Candidates.

I see news videos of ’left wing activists in city and town squares across the country imploring America to vote in this election which they say “Is the most crucial election of all time”. And I agree with them entirely. It is a most crucial election to keep the courts growing conservative. I don’t think that’s exactly what the libeal activists have in mind.

Somebody asked me how you weigh an elephant. It’s quite like weighing a person but on a much larger scale.

My one-word description for the “Debates” – “Debased”.

I don’t find oriental based music very relaxing. Does that make me a racist or just somebody who doesn’t like oriental music?

It’s NFL pick em’ time. Last week we picked too many upsets and lost or a 9-5-1 adventure. That brings us to 31-15-1 for 66%. The toughest task tonight in the NFL may be that of the promotion department trying to sell the idea that it’s worth watching this game between two 0-3 teams, the Broncos and the Jets. Which is more hapless? It is the Jets. Denver will win. There are posers between teams with a chance at the SB and posers between teams maybe going nowhere. The three big games this week are NE at KC, Buffalo at Lsa Vegas and Pitt and Tenn (Postponed due to Covid). I think I will take Tennessee over Pitt whenever they play this game. But, the Bills against the Raiders is also a tough one I like the Bills, but I’m thinking this game is at LV’s new Palace, ad will go to the LV. KC looks fantastic, but the Pats are playing quite well, but can they match KC’s speed. That is the question. I will pick KC.

Surprisingly, two teams that looked to challenge are now but 0-3 – Houston and Minn. I think Minn will finally get there. The Saints will tame the Lions just as they did in olden Rome. Ravens to crush the Skins, as will the Rams facing an injured Giants team. The Browns have a better record that Dallas, but I’ll pick the Cowboys at home. Dare I pick the Bengals over the Jags. I think I will. I like the Bucs over the Chargers and the Seahawks over an improving Miami team. The surprising Bears will keep it going over Indy and Arizona will take Carolina. Wrapping it up I have to take SF over the struggling Eagles and the Pack over the Falcons, who among all teams know how to blow a lead. Go Pats!!

I like the description somebody had for Joe Biden – “Trojan Horse”.

Somehow people have to look past the debates and focus on the direction where they want the country to go. Nonsense and extreme noise tend to interrupt logical thinking, even between intelligent people. It’s a slight of hand that induces people to miss the big picture while, arguing, focusing on minutia. The debates are minutia. The dominance and intrusion of government, the health of capitalism, the freedom of people are the big questions. How do we get there? This is the biggest and only question. That’s what elections should always be about. Not who can tap dance better on TV. Is the country going to go, grow our way or in a direction we would never want to see?

To be old and wise, you first must be young and stupid.

The Answer:

Tre are so many memorable Julie Andrews moves but how can you match Mary Poppins and Sound Of Music. Oh, maybe you should turn to Broadway when Julie first assaulted the world with her charm and grace and singing and good humor as the original Eliza Doolittle in “My Fair Lady, the biggest hit of the day. A new kind of Broadway Show. Of all the Triumphs, that may have been her biggest, the one where she became a star. Some to other big movies were Victor Victoria, The Americanization of Emily, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Princess Diaries, Torn Curtain and The Pink Panther Stakes Again, just to name a few.

Thursday Tids always take longer but sometimes are thinner. It’s because of the Football picks. I’d rather pick football winners than talk about politics anyhow.

See you tomorrow… if my Dr. B. Gee says I’m stayin’ alive. Maybe after that groaner you won’t care.
