Defining America.

Today's Tids Issue 4,764

Living with Covid:

“Never in all my days would I have thought that my hands would one day consume more alcohol than my liver. “

Well, don’t worry, just one more week of Covid and then if Joe is elected, it’s over.

Isn’t it interesting that Covid rhymes with Ovid?

A poet of yore who wrote of love.

That beyond the hardship of Covid,

So many of us are looking within ourselves.

Maybe finding feelings we never thought we had.

Maybe looking at others in a way never before seen.

Out of hardship often comes new beginnings.

New days. new energy, new awareness.

There are always blessings to be found.

Any way you look at this election duress, it’s hard to find any good out of the hardship of enduring it all.

A gift from Covid is that now I can clean my glasses with “Puffs” again because the lotion is in there anymore That is nice.

Expect a lot of Stock Market naysayers to rush to microphones crowing, “See I was right”. I’m still saying, just wait a week or so, that is, if the naysayers don’t create a panic.

The Question:

Name five books written by Ovid a most prominent poet along with the older Horace and Virgil during the reign of Augustus. Bonus: What are Neologisms?

When you think about it, Covid is defining Americans, humans as never before. – Caring, apathetic, responsible, selfish, intelligent, naïve… You get the point. And if you think about it. People from many opposing ideologies, gender and all the rest of the new points of so-called division, have the same concerns, the same sense of responsibility, regardless of how ideologues want to pigeonhole us. Not wanting to die is common to almost everybody.

Covid is like a Netflix series…just when you think it’s over, they release the next season.

I have a great grandfather named Horace, but he was no poet.

Mail-in voting is starting to look like a really bad idea.

If the Dems sweep, be prepared for a lot of lecturing. The left loves to lecture to the great unwashed, which to them is anybody who they think is inferior which is everybody who holds views opposite.  theirs.

It appears that more and more Americans are beginning to fear mobs overpowering police who will become unable to control marauding crowds. That the current appearance of destabilization has people rushing to buy guns. Since March according to the FBI reports, 15.1 million guns have been bought, an increase of 91% from the same period 2019.

If you divide the circumference of a pumpkin pie by its diameter, you get…pumpkin pi.

The Five senate races to watch are in Arizona, South Carolina (Yes, Lindsey Graham), Maine, Georgia and Alabama. This is probably what will determine the true fate of the country for the next 4 years.

Police work is dangerous, even when they least expect it. In the Philippines yesterday, a raid a on an illegal cockfight had one of the policemen killed …by a cock. There is nothing easy about being a law enforcement officer, and it appears the media is helping enable miscreants and criminals to continue to demean these mainly hard-working, honest people.

“Balderdash”: A rapidly receding hairline.

If you think back in time, October has at times been pretty awful for the Stock market. Held your breath until we get through the election.

But then, some WS Gurus are looking at this as a buying opportunity for FAANG stocks.

Tony Bobulinski seems believable to me. Have you noticed how the media is all of a sudden cautious about their reporting on Bobulinski, when in the past they have raved about the truth coming from suspect nut jobs attacking Republicans, Where has journalism gone?

I don’t know why, but when I read about Alibaba’s super entrepreneur Jack Ma, I immediately think of Korea’s Psy. Maybe it’s the way Ma is dancing around the globe.

I really like rainy days.

The Answer:

The three most important books by this great poet are: Metamorphoses, Ars Amatoria and Amores. He also wrote Fasti, Horoides, Epistulae ex Ponto, Venus and Adonis, and Tritia. Every once in a while, it’s good to ground yourself in the classics. Bonus: A neologism is an alternative meaning to a common word. i.e. “Circumvent: An opening in the front of boxer shorts worn by Jewish men.” I’ve been running a lot of these lately

Abdicate: To give up hope of ever having a flat stomach.

I think I feel a little crazy this morning;
