After the rage.

Today's Tid's the Season, Issue 4,799

A snow flake for your thoughts:

I would never move to a sunnier clime to avoid shoveling snow. I actually love it. Now I might move to a barren plain to avoid being forced to put leaves in large paper bags.

The sun now glistens off new fallen snow.

I feel at ease in this crisp December glow.

The winds swept in, the churning snow blew,

And gave us all an unadulterated scenic view.

I wonder what cave man decided that inventing the piano was a good idea? I’m sure glad that somebody did. Fred Flintstone Steinway?

A reader sends in this which may speak for all of us: “All I want for Christmas is to be off the car warranty call list.”

Isn’t interesting how after a ferocious, tumultuous storm, we find a most peaceful time, filled with pure beauty. I think that is what it will be like when Covid disappears.

The Question:

Name ten famous Pop culture Cavemen or Cavewomen.

The Headlines:

--Continuing Stimulus Talks Push Nasdaq and S&P To Record Highs; New Jobless Claims Rise Again to 885K.

Northeast Digging Out; 39.9 Inches Dumped On Binghamton NY and 35.3 on Williamsport Pa (Little League WS Town).”

--French Prez Macron Tests Positive For CV; Cal Sets Daily Record With 50K new Covid Cases and 400 Deaths.\--SpaceX To Launch Spy Satellite Tomorrow.

--China Successfully Lands Moon Capsule With New, Broader Variety Of Moonrocks.

Don’t you think that public opinion has ceded too much power to Dr. Fauci?

The Pickers are now looking at the last three games of the year. Tis week will have a lot to say about not only who gets into the playoffs, but who gets the higher seedings. So, some games that look dull on paper may just be highly significant Last week we went 12-4 bringing us to 145-61-1 (70.05%). Being the dreamer I am, I figure if I go 48-0 over the last three weekends, I’ll be just over my objective of 75% -- 76%. I se the big games as Buffalo Denver (Buff can clinch), NE-Miami (Miami Needs it for a chance; NE for pride), (Dallas-SF (Dallas surprisingly still in NFC East hunt; SF for Pride.), KC-NO (For #1 Seedings), Cleve-NYG (Cleve for playoff spot, Giants still in NFC East), Phil-Ariz (Ariz for Wild card; Phil another still in NFC east hunt) and maybe a very good game – Seattle and the surprising Washington Redskins. Seattle is in tie for top spot n NFC West, and Wash is atop NFC East. I’m picking Buffalo (If they come down from their Pitt win), Miami, San Fran, New Orleans, Cleveland, Arizona (Could be a better game that we think), and the toughest pick of the day.  I’m going with Seattle.

Of the rest, Tennessee and Indy have to keep on winning to maintain their tie atop the AFC South, and they should with Tenn over Detroit and Indy over Houston. I‘m going with Las Vegas over LA Chargers, Minn  over da Bears, Baltimore over Jax, Rams well over the Jets, Pitt to bounce back over Cinncy and in a pretty good game, TB edging mistake prone Atlanta, by a mistake.

Mike Pence gave an excellent speech in Georgia today in support of the Repub senators Perdue and Loeffler. Who knew that the guy in the background could speak so well.

Kroger reports that the favorite Covid season purchases are Chocolate, Cheese and Wine. I guess that’s because I don’t by my snacks at Kroger.

I wonder if a lot of people who get hearing aids actually just have wax in their ears?

A good reader sent in another favorite Christmas song to add to yesterday’s list, “Have yourself a Merry little Christmas.” Good choice!

Meanwhile, down at the pound they’re singing, “Hear comes Santa Paws.” That was right after finishing “Deck the halls with bows on collies.” I woof I never typed those two “jokes”. I’m going to the dogs.

Everything looks kind of normal until you look at the numbers. The Preservation society of Newport RI normally gets well over a million visitors a year. This year their visits are down 77% and revenue a huge 68%. That is just one more tip of the iceberg that is representative of business losses throughout the country. Pretty devastating.

The Answer:

Feminists would probably stone me for using the word Cavewomen! Yikes! Here’s the list: 1932 we got “Ally Oop”. It took til 1958 to get “BC” and two years after we discovered Fred Flintstone. Next is Loana, the only memorable character from the bad movie, “One Million Years BC”; memorable mainly because of Raquel Welch in a leather bikini. “Captain Caveman” arrived in 1977 in the TV show “Captain Caveman and the teen Angels”. In 1981, we found Ayla from the first book of the Earth Children series: “Clan of the Cave Bear”. Atouk played by Ringo Starr (Yes that Ringo Starr in the underdog film “Caveman. Thag Simmons came out of Gary Larson’s Far Side and is better known for the “Thagomizer”. In 1991 Phil Hartman parleyed the Cirroc – “The Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer”. Brendan Frazer played “Link” (The missing link) in 1992’s “Encino Man”. “The GEICO Caveman” appeared in 2004, along with the line cavemen hated, “So easy a caveman could do it.”  And lastly, we have “Ishbo” the hero of National Lampoon’s “Homo Erectus”.

Though the bluster, the dreams of Christmas never left.
