Change hurts.

Today's Tids Issue 4,866

Just a matter of Time:

Why didn’t Noah swat those two mosquitos?

Some young adults and middle-aged people care, and wonder how they would have enjoyed the “good ole’ days” of which older generations speak of so eloquently and fondly. Others see good ole’ days as interfering with their perceptions of what a new world without history of human toiling should be.

Millennials don’t play “Simon Says”. Simon Suggests, maybe.

Isn’t it ironic that those who promote change want to eliminate coins?

The Question:

What is a McGuffin?

The Headlease:

--Stocks Opened I Limbo Awaiting Powell/Yellen Testimony; Powell Yellen Testimony Pushes Markets Down; Powell Calls US Economy Much Improved. WS Doesn’t Like That Perhaps Signaling Higher Rates.

Union public employee pension funds used to have to worry about the vagaries of the stock markets. But no longer, now that congress can just pass a couple of trillion in spending to replenish losses. Some progressives might say now we don’t to grow funds through the stock markets since Congress can just pick it off Money Tree. Regulating the stock market out of existence won’t hurt the working man… only the rich.

Now that there has been time to analyses Covid, it has been determined that its spread is based on two factors: 1. How dense the population is. 2. How dense the population is.

This year’s March Madness looked like it was going to be crazier than ever, and it has been. Here are the seeds for the teams left in the Sweet Sixteen: West – 1, 5, 6, 7; East – 1, 4, 11, 2; South – 1,5,3, 4; Midwest – 8, 12, 11, 2. Theoretically they should have all below four. Half are five or above. The Pac Ten is looking real good with Oregon State, Oregon, USC, UCLA (When the smog lifts in Los Angeles UCLA). Add unbeaten Gonzaga and you have five teams from the West Coast. The Big Ten has but one team, Michigan and the perennial contender ACC has two, FSU and surprising Syracuse. The Big East has two, Nova and Creighton. The SEC has also two, Arkansas and Alabama, AAC Houston and the Southwest has Baylor. Then there is perhaps the favorite Cinderella, Loyola of Chicago.  So. watch out for the Sweet Sixteen tourney. Anybody can win that too.

The NY Times is saying that the Biden Admin is looking at $3 trillion in new spending in addition to Porkville for things like Infrastructure, clean energy and universal pre-K. The worry on Wall Street, is that somewhere need money to pay for it, and that somewhere could be higher taxes, economy stifling penalties could dampen the Stock markets.

How come you never see the headline, “Psychic wins Powerball”.

Did you see where Goldman Sachs admitted that 100-hour workweeks could be hurting employee’s morale and health. That’s why GS is so successful. They are insightful.

Here’s some convoluted logic of the type that goes around and for some reason people accept it. Fact: In NYC, blacks are attacking Asians. (Also, the case in San Fran.) Last Friday a protest Washington Square came together for “justice for the attack on (Asian) Noel Quintana.” It was accompanied by a poster that said, “End the violence toward Asians. Let's unite against white nationalism.” The attack of Noel was a black man. Race was conveniently left out of the report of the attack.  And you think activists will listen to reason to find peace among all races and nationalities. No, harmony does not help the cause of people who gain power from division.

Whoever said nothing is impossible, never tried to slam a revolving door.

Congress passes these huge bills which the average citizen never reads. But what Congress is doing is sending lots of money and general guidelines for execution to agencies run by unelected bureaucrats.

The Answer:

A McGuffin is an object, event, character or device in a movie or a book that serves as a trigger for the plot. Alfred Hitchcock was the first person to use MacGuffin a sword for a plot device. “He borrowed it from an old shaggy-dog story by Angus MacPhail in which some passengers on a train interrogate a fellow passenger carrying a large, strange-looking package. The fellow says the package contains a "MacGuffin," which, he explains, is used to catch tigers in the Scottish Highlands. When the group protests that there are no tigers in the Highlands, the passenger replies, "Well, then, this must not be a MacGuffin." But a Hitchcock appreciated the way suspicious, mysterious yet basically irrelevant package held interest. Among well-known examples of MacGuffins are the “Letters of Transit” in Casablanca, “Rosebud in Citizen Kane “Doug” in Hangover II and perhaps most iconic of all, “The statue of the Falcone” in Maltese Falcon.

The more I encounter change the mor I wish I hadn’t. Although I hope they find a cure for cancer.
