Today's Tids Issue 4,865

Music is better than politics:

My brackets were busted early when my Cinderella team’s Fairy Godmother didn’t show up in time for the ball-game. Winthrop is still curled up by the fireplace hearth. And then there were may more. I knew there would be a lot of upsets. I just picked all the wrong ones.

In case you are interested, the first day of Spring up this way looked like the first day of spring.

A delightful reader wrote Friday to give the answer to Friday’s Bonus “3 comma Q, which was left answerless by an absent minded Tidster. It is the “Billionaire’s Club”. The reader was kind enough not to mention other typos and grievous spelling errors.

“Having some states lock down and some states not lock down is like having a peeing section ia swimming pool.”

The Question:

What is ranunculus?

I can’t believe it took me nearly 70 years to discover Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Symphony. Just shows you how long you can a exist in mindless numbness.

Hint: Discounted stocks are not in the tech sector. Mr. Obvious strikes again!

Ah good weather and the end of Covid -- yesterday I went to an old beach restaurant favorite for lunch and the wait was an hour and a half. I’ll take winter. Tourist crowds in March! What happened to Memorial Day?

Why are classical piano concertos always filled with so much pure and beautiful love? Why does my heart pound like it does?

An interesting read is the success story of Cathy Wood and her investment company ARK. Read that ARK as in a Ark of the Covenant. Yes, she is religious, and randomly each day picks a line or two form her “One-Year-Bible” to inspire innovation and financial decisions. She also is devoted to the idea of lowering taxes to produce a stronger economy resulting in higher tax revenue.  As a “Disruptive Innovator” she logically skates around Wall Street’s Norms, like “embracing active management when investing seemed inexorably tied to indexing”, She funds a course she fuds at her all-Girl High School called “Disruptive Innovation” for enterprising teens. Oh yeah, she was also the one who called the $4,000 stock target for a belabored Tesla when most investors were negative. Oh, she missed that aggressive target, t actually went to $4,500 share. (15 times her original investment). But, the big Q on WS is how does she come out of the decline triggered by the flip flop from growth stocks to Cyclicals. But she, doesn’t follow the worn-out paths of history. (“Benchmarks are all about successes of the past,” She says). Maybe she’ll just find her new charter from some line in that trusty bible of hers.

It is becoming obvious that some in the media and politicos want the Atlanta Massage Parlor Shootings to be declared racist so they can continue to divide America.

My favorite TV program is “Wall Street Week.

Restaurants seem to be filling up again. People are raising their glasses to getting out together with humans again. Artificial Intelligence will never replace a happy human smile. Smiles come from real beating hearts.

Friday, I mentioned that I would take a closer look at something called “Critical Race Theory (CRT)” which snuck up on the populace as recently as this summer. It is not new though. For years the demarcation between Dems and Repubs revolved around Unions and Management. But for leftists now more dominant in the good ole’ Dm party, that just didn’t rise too the level of division rabid progressives would desire. This orthodoxy counters the hops of MLK, “We want America to be a place where said, our children are judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. But we have to fight it in the right way, without compromising the very freedoms we seek to preserve.” CRT wants the differences, and groups have successfully introduced it into schools curriculums throughout the country. To counter, many states have passed or have bills on dockets to restrict teaching of CRT. But sates are also finding difficulty as they realize Freedom of Speech ramifications prohibiting the banning of proponents of CRT, Critical Feminist Theory, Post-Colonial Theory and other leftist educational intrusions that promote divisiveness by Race Gender, Political affiliation, Social Class or other particular defined sub classes. This may sound out there, but from what I can read, the left is in there with CRT, and apathy moves them along. What we see happening doesn’t just happen through osmosis.
